Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

the A1 looks great.
i did a little google and SH google searching and could not find any info so i figured i would ask.
has anyone thought of a dta 22lr?
it would be great to have a 22 srs or covert clone.
if the cost was 1k ish, i would play.

I,m with ya, I just ordered one myself. I,m pretty sure Nick said the butt pad would fit the SRS. Not sure about the cheek piece.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

All A1 parts are retrofit able on all srs rifles produced prior. It will be a little bit before we have some spare parts for the upgrade kits though. I wouldn't forget about you guys like that. I'm a rifle owner too. :)

I'm working on a bastardized version of this now - Trying to put a donor bolt action with a linkage into a set of old DTA skins, with an aluminum 'block' machined such that the donor .22 bolt action still has a scope in the right spot.

No way my trigger is going to be close, I'd be happy enough to get a position close. Probably only a year away... Just a one off thing for myself. I'll post pictures if it ever works.

And thanks to DTA for doing the A1 retrofits!

That is good news!! I like how the A1 turned out.. hopefully "little bit" isnt too long before they have some spare parts...

Will be interesting to see how you add the cheek rest , looks like it would have to be a new stock, not something that could be added on.

Hopefully the price for all the upgrade wont turn out to be the same as a new rifle LOL!!

That's a bummer especially since the promise date was behind because the wait for the "new" bolts...I hope mine comes with the new bolt...

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

SRS A1. Damn. That's just... Damn. I was sold before, I'm even moreso now. Just gotta wait until the first attending paycheck in July, and DTA will get a big chunk of it.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Great System, hope to have one soon. Long Time reader and admirer but 1st time posting.

Will the SRS-A1 come with the 3 short forearm rails as pictured?

Will the Covert version of the SRS-A1 be available in March also?

Thanks

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Woot! I'm in on the new A1 stock and buttpad for my Gen2!!

Now if I could just get my 338 mag that was missing from my conversion

I'm thinking about getting a 7wsm conversion. For you guys that own the 7 wsm can you give me any feedback on the reliability of feeding from the 300 win mag magazines.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Nick, i remember talking to you on the phone and by email in the early days about adding the cheeck piece and mono pod, you were so against it at the time. I'm very glade to see that you are on board now, and i can't wait to order the A1. I have had many fun years with my Gen 1, still shoots one hole groups but it's time to upgrade. Thanks for staying open minded and on the cutting edge.

Yeah, Yeah, We'll see how long it REALLY takes.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

How long what REALLY takes?

The cheek piece? It's out. I have 4 of the rifles in my truck right now. There are 8 or so more in Vegas. I have no clue how many are at the shop. I don't know exactly when it is going to be shipping, but that's not my department.

I have video of the testing of the new butt pads and spacer systems as well as the new skins.

By the way..... as negative as I have been about the need for a softer buttpad, this new one is dead sexy. I still don't feel like the original was a big deal, but this new one is a huge improvement so I don't mind eating crow.

As far as the mag, like I said. It's on the docket, but not at the top of the list and will be released LATE this year or early next yer along with the left hand version of the weapon system.

We can only try to please everyone.....

Don't get me wrong, I'm a FAN! no one out there has to sell me on DTA. Heck all my other rifles have become "safe queens" I am very appreciative that the company listens and trys to do it's best to solve issues for allot of folks and I know this takes time to develope as it should. It just seems that DTA has sooo many irons in the fire on several fronts that it seems to forget sometimes that when you have a GREAT product that the public craves stock needs to be available when improvements /changes are developed and announced. Just hard to understand that's all. I guess it just takes time but it's frustrating if you know what I mean, We seem to be like little children that was just given candy and our desire is in full tilt.

I am bummed about the huge delay for a 10 round mag. This will probably keep me from getting a DTA for match use. There are two many stages where a 10 round mag is necessary or at least very helpful.

Everything else in this announcement is great news, but no 10 round mag seems like a major blunder.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I know there is a WTB section but since this is DTA specific, I figured I'd ask here.

Anyone know where I can get a Gen 1 barrel ext ASAP?

NEVERMIND.....found one

That's great Nick, hopfully in the comming month's these improvements/developments, bolts, bolt heads, butt pads, cheek pieces, mags etc. will flow into the pipeline to satify the cravings. Have a productive S.H.O.T. show!

There is more to this than you think. We don't want some huge mag hanging out the bottom interfering with uphill shooting and support side arm and hand. Building a low profile magazine that still runs ten rounds and runs every time isn't anything to sneeze at. The system was developed for the magazine that Nick originally designed for it. He never had thoughts of a higher cap mag back then.

Just like what was posted up before, we do have a lot going on, unfortunately, that magazine isn't top priority. Believe me, I want one more than most people, but that isn't in the cards right now.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

THIS ^^^^^^

"We don't want some huge mag hanging out the bottom interfering with uphill shooting and support side arm and hand."

At one time, I thought I 'needed' a 10 rd mag, but if this 10 rd mag is too long, then that's a no-go. When I was running AICS mags, I hardly ever used my 10 rd mags.

I guess I prefer, the 6 rd mags. Easier to carry several and mag changes are pretty fast.

So....looking forward to a DTA 10 rd mag,someday, but I can wait...

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I completely agree with Russ on the mag height issue. I have had some friends get the 10rd AICS mags and have issues in certain shooting positions. That trip has helped me decide that when I redo my R700, I'll have it opened up to take AW mags. It's encouraging that DTA is already working on a solution to this issue.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I think it speaks volumes about Nick and his staff, that they actually listen to their cust and incorporate what we want. I have waited for years for these upgrades and i am very happy that they took the time to get it right the first time, and not push junk into our hands that we would not be happy with.
Keep up the good work Nick, and i hope your buisness continues to grow as it has thus far.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I think the adjustable comb has finally sold me on this setup but I still want to try one before selling my ar10's to fund it. Anyone in the midwest have one they are willing to let me try out? I just want to see how the trigger is and how the bolt feels. I'm more than willing to drive 2-3 hours to meet up.

Russ,

Thanks for taking the time to listen to your customers here and potential customers. It does show a high commitment by you and DTA.

It sounds like you are well aware of the pros and cons of a 10 round mag.

Psyops brought up some good points, and he does great at the matches we shoot at, so I will see how he copes with the occasional extra mag change.

Thanks again for listening in here. You have a great product that is high on my shopping list.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I can imagine designing a magazine that feeds reliably in a new platform is probably the hardest part about designing a proprietary weapon system. Everything else is pretty straight forward ......aside from a good trigger I guess. A good bull pup trigger had to be tough to put together.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Have there been any changes in the magazine since the rifles original production or have they stayed the same since the beginning? Example being a gen 1 308 from a gen 2 308

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Question for those in the know....

If I swap a Gen II extension out for a Gen I on a barrel, should it headspace out without any machine work or will the barrel have to be machined to get head space right?
