SOOOO Glad i decided to go the SRS A2 route....my Gen 1 SRS had been fantastic, and the A2 is just the icing on the cake !!!

I purchased 4 barrel conversions as well , and the 300WM is the first i have been using...absolutely loving it!!!

225 Hornady ELD-M,s with AR2217 is proving spectacular... See pics..( 200 and 475yds)

Today stepped out to 1500yds......perfect no wind..... and a gorgeous day.. Plate is 12" dia . painted rocks range from 6" to 10-12" ...

First shot at the plate went 4" over the top.....made a correction and just a tad low...next 5 shots...ALL on the plate !!!

Small rock....next 2 shots ..impact on top...

The SRS is an awesome awesome platform....

I was keen to get the 50bmg , but many talked me out of it due to recoil/muzzle blast...here in Aus Suppressors are no go ... so just the muzzle brake to deal with that !

I think you made a wise choice... I'm in the US / Virginia so I'm suppressed. Also I don't have the terrain to stretch out the .375.. I'm a big fella at 6' 5" 330ish so I just deal with the recoil.. It took me a couple days to decide on the .50 when I bought it.. I think my "So called" friends influenced my decision a bit, just because they wanted to shoot some of my $8.00 Ammo... LOL

And yes, the mag isn't seated correctly..

As an American in NZ, at my first ELR match I was trying to identify the 2000m target with a local spotter and the convo went like this:

"See where the ridgeline is? Follow the tussock down all the way to the left edge of the paddock and you'll see it"

"Follow the what down?"

"The tussock, follow it down to the left edge of the paddock."

"Um...what's a tussock and what's a paddock?"

Anyone used the Berger 379gr and 407gr Match Solids in the HTI with its 1 in 10.5 twist?

Took a punt and purchased a large quantity of these as projectiles are VERY scarce here in Aus.

Now I find out the 1 in 10.5 twist "may" not be fast enough??

If you can get me the bullet length (try to go 3 decimal places in inches if you would) and your expected velocity then I can put the numbers into the formula and we can see what side you're on. It might just be not quite 1.5Sg or it might be much worse. If it's only "may not" then probably it's just the Sg is a little low and you'll lose some amount of BC rather than key holing.

379 are 2.225" or 56.68mm @ 2950fps

407 are 2.325 or 59.1mm @ 2850fps

In 29inHg air I get the following using my own calculator:
1.3Sg @ 40F and 60F, 1.4Sg from 80F to 100F, 1.5Sg From 100F to 130F with the 379's.
1.2Sg @ 40F, 1.3Sg from 60F to 90F, 1.4Sg above 90F with the 407's

Using the Berger site's twist rate calculator I get a bit lower Sg at each temperature band. Enough lower to suggest that the 407's might really not like that and anyway would lose almost ~8% of BC. BC loss with the 379's is similar but a tiny bit lower but it's not nearly as low of Sg compared to the 407's. You would probably get decent performance even with the slightly lowered BC on the 379's but the 407's seem like not a good fit to me.

M2 Advice
Stopped by one of the local gun stores today to browse around and when asked if i needed any help i asked if they had any Desert Tech rifles, his reply was maybe let me check around in the back.
He came back out with a box containing a new M2 chassis and the plastic bag with all the misc pieces. The first M2 I've ever seen and I've got an A1 all the bolts and a collection of barrels and sort of keep up with the values but not for the M2 model. He told me this was a special order and the guy that ordered it ran into some money problems.
So what would be considered a good price range for a looks new chassis and are there any reasons to shy away from this model. Thanks

The main difference with the M2 is an integrated ARCA rail on the bottom of the handguard and an integrated 40MOA rail on the top. That's basically it. The limitation is that you can't run a short Covert handguard on the M2 the way you can with an A1 or A2.

I paid $4200 for mine, brand new.

Edit: it's a damned expensive chassis, essentially. But importantly: one scope, many rifles.

Thanks for the response and info on the M2. Think I'll give the guy a call and see what kind of deal he's willing to make. I certainly don't need an M2 but then again if the price is right my A1 handguard gets cut down to Covert length.

I paid 4100 for mine. Absolutely love it. Trigger is heavier than I usually use but it's crisp and consistent enough that it doesn't bother me. The built-in ARCA rail on bottom, all the M-LOC you could possibly desire and the 1-piece 20moa canted pic rail on the top plus a flat trigger (meh) is all pretty great, saves on accessories. 24" barrels are about as short as you'll want to go unless running a suppressor that'll fit inside the HG.

" Dia.......Distance ....1940yds ( to be exact ) 8 shots fired 3 misses and 5 hits!!

I only loaded up 16rds initially for load testing as it works out to be just on AUD $20 a shot!!

The HTI in 375 is an absolute pussy cat to shoot!!

Yeah, I love it when the paper product propaganda, the website details and the actual thing don't agree. As far as I can tell it should be a 20moa rail but that's based on where my zero ended up putting my elevation turret within it's mechanical range.

Apparently so did someone at DT. I think they might have planned it to have 40, tried it with 30 in early pre-production units and eventually saw the error of their ways and backed it down to 20. Just a guess.

The initial M2's were 40 MOA, after reviewing requests, it was changed to 30 which seemed to be more popular. Mine is one of the OG's, still has the 40 on it.

Glad you love it, I had my HTI out this morning doing some 900 yd shots... These rifles are incredible, my .50 BMG hits shot after shot right on top of its self if I allow it too without anticipating the recoil..

Any ever have issues with feeding issues using 10 round short action magazines (.308, 175 gr SMK) and know how to fix them?

I have a SRS M2 and sometimes the gun gets jammed up when trying to chamber a round. When it happens I have to pull down on the magazine in order to get the round to chamber.

My Gen 1 has long had an issue with all magazines where there's lots of play with a seated magazine, and in certain situations when the front of the mag drops down slightly, it causes feed issues. I've just gotten in the habit of supporting the mag slightly with my non-firing hand.

You might play with the tension on the bolts around the magwell of the skins.

Play with the tightness on the bolts nearest the magwell. I think I had to open the feed lips just a little on one or two of mine. Make sure to rock the mag every which way while feeding to make sure you don’t go too far.

Thanks for the tips, I tightened up the bolts near the magwell and in testing at home it seems to have helped with the issue.

Mine has a 41" Lilja barrel, makes one hole groups (see profile pic), puts blast way out in front of me, and has an AR50 brake so recoil is not bothersome. The DT is the perfect platform for a 40" (or longer) barrel to maximize the potential of 50 BMG (which was designed for a 45" barrel).

There’s some disadvantages for sure (try sliding hand down tripod rear support for cattle gate) but it sure was fun to see the silly looks on peoples faces.

Still my second favorite rifle. I really love one of my .22s.

Speaking of 50cal, I'm thinking of converting my DTA Covert 308 into a dedicated Thumper.

4 Choices so far
1- Keep the 308 bolt and do a 450 Bushmaster
2- Keep the 308 bolt and do a 450 Raptor
3- Keep the 308 bolt and do a 458 Soccom
4- Get a DTA magnum bolt face and do a 458 Mag/2in

Idea would be to stretch the range of subsonic. My Covert is already submoa at long range subsonic (up to 250y then the vertical starts to show) using Lapua 200FMJBT and LeHigh 194s but I'd like to get more energy and more expansion in the 100-200y range. I know the 452s have really cheap 300gr bullets and I could use trailboss for the 300s and tinstar/N105 for the 395 SubX/400gr

458 have good bullets too, including the new SubX 410gr but it seems like it'll be more expensive to feed although CAMPRO now got some cheap 458s plated bullet in the 500-550gr.

I like the idea of being to get easy factory ammo with the 450 BM but it's a very low pressure round and I like to run my subsonic with fast pistol powers like Tinstar, N105 and TB so I like the idea of the 450 Raptor with a bit of a buffer for pressure (40k vs 55k) and I should be able to find starline brass for both 450Raptor and BM.

458Mag/2in is easy to get/make brass as well. I also like the idea of headspace off the belt or shoulder vs off the case mouth.

So it pretty much comes down to feeding and accuracy, which one do you think might be the easiest to feed in a DTA ? I understand I might have to permanently modify the 308 mags and weld a spacer of some kind to make up for the short OAL. I like to think that 458/2in would feed better than the shorter 2.26/2.30in that were made for AR15 mags.

Probably also easier to get a quality 458 blank than 452. Benchmark has 458
