The mag itself isnt shorter, but there is a metal piece that goes short-ways across the mag that makes the back portion of the mag empty space. From the outside the mags look identical.

Speaking of 260..

I was thinking of ordering one but for me it's 308 or 260--not both, simply because I don't want to be that repetitive.

I guess this is for another thread, but it just seems like 260 is so expensive to shoot...looks like 50% to twice the price compared to 308. I'm not doing my own handloads, but that's from checking ammotogo.com and SWAmmunition.

Anyway, I'm quite tempted to 'pull the trigger' on a 260 kit. If I can figure out how not to bankrupt myself on ammo.

SW ammo has .260 for about the same as .308 and in some cases its cheaper then .308

Possibly dumb question: I have my first SRS inbound, due to arrive today; however, original owner says the package does not include a bolt stop for the 308 conversion. It seems to me the bolt stop is not essential to the operation of the platform, am I right in that?
Or should I wait till I have the bolt stop to run the 308?

In looking at DTA's documentation and at pictures, the bolt stop seems to be nothing more than a spacer to reduce the overall travel of the bolt. If that is accurate, the stop is not essential.

Anyone?

You can run 308 win without bolt stop it just doesn't eject as reliably with no bolt stop.

Mark should be able to do pretty much whatever you need. I very recently received an 18" 10-twist .308 barrel from him for my Covert. The contour of the barrel is very similar to the 16" 8-twist .308 barrel that is standard for the Covert, except two inches longer. I've been meaning to put together a review of Mark's work on the barrel, but simply haven't had the time as yet. FWIW, the workmanship is outstanding, the barrel shoots bugholes, and it was a real pleasure to interact with Mark and have him do the work. Pretty much all you need to know, IMO.

First rounds down range (308 setup) and it shoots great. Trigger breaks clean, feels kinda mushy AFTER the break, but I can deal with that.

Recoil is unlike anything I've felt with a bolt gun, with a can, the barrel pushes back but doesn't rise.

Still playing with bipod location, but closer to the muzzle and pre-loaded seems to seat the butt real well.

In all, I am very impressed. It shoots better than me. SHooting lefty is no problem, a stock pack will probably make that a little more comfortable.

Got bit by the mag first round out, have to remember to grab and hold further back than average bolt gun.

I'm hooked, gotta get a 300WM conversion. Afraid to shoot the 338LM conversion, else I'll be buying a 338 can.

I have Mark making my custom conversion for my SRS, I looked everywhere and it always came back to him. A bit of a pain in the "A" to get it shipped to Australia but the guys at DTA are helping me out and so is the Australian importer for DTA. All I can say is the after sales service is the best on any product firearms related or not. Now all we need is a 223 conversion.

I've got a rapidly worsening light primer strike problem on a gen 1 DTA SRS with the 308 bolt face.

Which part does this mean I need to replace? And is this a common issue? Less than 1000 rounds down the tube.

Check the assembly of the bolt - I had a problem with this in my gen 1 SRS and it turned out that the little pin that holds the hammer/striker/magic works into outer shell of the bolt had worked it's way in too deep. If you push the spring loaded side of the bolt in, it will usually back out a bit and the problem is resolved, but you can fix it for good I believe by adjusting the depth of the set screw that applies pressure to the spring retainer on this pin when servicing the bolt.

SRSDriver, that happened one of my 1st gen rifles. Call DTA and they will send you a new firing pin and spring. They has some springs that weren't really up so specs in the 1st 100 or so released. Or you can send it to them and have them replace it for you. Either way works. Actually sending in the receiver may be a better way a you can get the newer trigger assembly installed too. They did that to mine when I had it converted to a Covert and what a difference it made.

I'm like a kid at Xmas waiting on my srs and it is killing me!!!! I was wanting some input on my build. I took your advise and reached out to mark Gordon about doing my barrel (great guy buy the way), and sending the barrel to kampfield customs to do the fluting on the barrel. I have my larue mount and bipod figured out just can't decide on glass. I have had the USO SN3 Tpal on my mind for some time now. This is my first custom/scoped build so not a expert buy anymeans I just know I have the bug and I am hooked.

Well, definitely found the problem.

Took out my firing pin spring. Luckily I had a spare. The one I took out was 1/4" or more shorter than the new spring that went in. I've heard of springs losing their elasticity, but I was pretty surprised to find it had gotten so 'smushed'.

In a gen 1 gun with 1000 rds down the tube.

Nick has mentioned in the past that all new rifles use the Gen 2 extension, however they continue to support the Gen 1 extension if you ask for a conversion kit for a Gen 1 rifle.

Have you checked out the DT? As a lefty who is forced into shooting right handed I've found it to be quite comfortable either right or left. The only issue with shooting left handed is having to move your head to cycle the bolt. I shoot mine lefty sometimes and its great. Its worth looking into.

While I've heard others say it's comfortable to shoot, theres just something about having to give up your sight picture with each cycle of the bolt thats a major disadvantage IMHO. Then again maybe it's not that big of a deal though I think it would hinder you in a competition...

ETA: Yes I have handled one and they're beautiful rifles for sure. Also I'm left hand left eye dominant so shooting a righty in the traditional sense is a no-go.

I shoot my SRS lefty and righty, no problems. If you need to stay on the rifle and not lose sight picture, set up for right-handed shot.

Shooting ambi is great practice for real-world situations.

It's a feature, not a bug.

Does anyone know of anyone with a 22-250 conversion? If so, I would like to know how well it feeds from the magazine.

I would hate to pay for $1K plus for a conversion only to find that it does not feed from the mag.

Will the 16" 1/8" twist .308 convert shoot lighter bullets like 147 grain M80 ball and 150 grain Remington Core-Lokts? I am curious if the tight twist is too much for bullets that are this light.

I've run 155 gr Scenars from mine (Lapua factory load) and they worked quite well. The avg. muzzle velocity (2 x 10-shot strings) was 2799 fps and the avg. precision ( 4 x 5-shot groups) at 100 yd was 0.9 MOA.

If your referring to the two trigger mount screws on the trigger housing, I would go 30-40 inch pounds and some blue lock tight. there really isnt a set torque, just tighten them with a dab of lock tight. you'll be good to go. If your referring to the screw that holds the trigger onto the trigger lever. just snug no more. The dove tail is a very good fit and your trigger will not slide.

I would go with the DTA. They make a nice one piece unit that you can get with 20, 30 or 40 moa built into it and at the proper height.
