Hey Ty, You can see the DTA trio in action if you are heading down to PHX this Sat.

We were able to do a quick 100yd load test this past weekend and go out the next day for dope session. For now, our load will be 41.9gr H4350 140gr A-max. I just hope we can make the DTA's look good in the match, because I am not completely comfortable with the platform yet.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the "heads up". Maybe when LVMike gets his DTA going, we can have a DTA party.

Well its official... my wife hates all you guys !!!

I just spent my kids college fund and bought a DTA SRS 308, i'm going to have to sleep with it to keep me warm but I was hoping for that also. I love the balance and feel of this rifle it feels just right in my hands. My kids are smart enough anyways so college can wait.


I also had a question on where I can get the barrel turned down to 5/8-24 so I can use a AAC Brakeout ?
What is the average cost of this operation ?

Ive read the entire thread, and i still cant figure out how the triggerlinkage actually works. I guess im a bit dumb.
Can anyone please make a drawing of it, or take some pictures of linkage dissasembled?

Any good smith can do it. I have a great smith outside Houston, he charges $150 and turns stuff quickly, let me know if you want contact info. he'll be turning mine this coming week.
And another nice thing about a DTA: if you need to send the barrel out to be turned, no need to ship the whole damned gun, barrels ship easy.

You can run the 22" .308 barrel in the Covert. To take full advantage of the Covert rail, most will run the 16" barrel. A good friend of mine has the Covert 16" .308 and then runs a 26" 338 LM barrel for long range work. It works great and he has been very happy with it.

I recently put a .260 barrel in mine and I am sold on the 6.5 caliber cartridges now. The shoot flatter and buck the wind much better than the .308.

I got to shoot a SRS in .308 last night. My first impression of the rifle was "what the f@*#k is that thing"...LOL.. But after shooting it I was amazed at the accuracy and the lack of recoil from such a small rifle. The trigger...... was like pushing a button.. Extremely smooth! Over all, an absolutey amazing rifle!

Nearly everyone that shoots my SRS is surprised at how nice the trigger is.

Covert with 26" .338 Conversion. The covert balances very well with the longer barrel. The SRS and Covert are about a foot shorter than comparable bolt action rifles with similar length barrels. Not having that weight out front and having the action towards the rear of the stock, makes both rifles balance extremely well. Honestly, when you shoulder either rifle they feel deceptively light. Which makes off-hand, sitting, and kneeling positional shooting much easier than with a traditional style bolt action rifle of similar weight and barrel length.

6mm's (243, 6 XC, and the sort) are about the best long range practical cartridges available. The ballistics inside 1000 yards are really only touched by the heavy 7mm's. The only downside with the 6's is relatively short barrel life.

I recently tested a Covert conversion for an article, taking my full size SRS .338LM down to a Covert .308WIN. It really is striking just how compact the latter is, right to within an inch of NFA restrictions. Changing out the handguard is pretty easy too, as long as you have a vise to mount the receiver in. I often still have an Army mindset about precision rifles, wondering aloud whether I'd want to hump or jump a particular rifle. The Covert is so compact you could easily fit it in an M1950 carry case or even strap it to your ruck.

At this point, the main advantages of full length SRS are really for mounting clip-on NODs or placing a bipod out further from the CG. While the Covert can mount the full length 26" .338LM barrel then swap down to a super compact .308WIN - it's got an edge in versatility.

Nope on the velocity. I will have time this weekend to do more load test and Chrono. Mine is a factory Lothar Walther barrel. I am curious how it compares with your benchmark barrel.

Yes, we were all bummed you weren't there. We wanted to learn from our local DTA Master,

. It was not a good idea to take a new rifle/platform to a match. But we still had fun.

You need to look at the mags pretty carefully before making any plans on other cartridges. They are made to stop the recoil from banging the tip of the bullet into the front of the mag. They do this by narrowing the mag down where the shoulder of the intended cartridge is. What this means is that the .338 Lapua Mag magazine won't fit a number of other rounds that are longer and wider past the shoulder of the .338. .510 whisper won't fit in the mags because the .510 dia bullet is wider than the neck of the .338 just past where the shoulder of the .338LM is. I have a feeling the .458 might be in the same boat. I'd like to see some generic mags for the guns along with the ones dedicated to a particular cartridge.I like the ones they have but it would be nice to have options. There is plenty of room in the receiver so its just a mag issue.....

The day they can conjure and fit a 10rd double stack mag for the 308 length calibers is the day I'll buy one. Reloading a bullpup in a hurry has got knobs on it compared to a conventional mag forward set-up, so the fewer the better...

If it will help I can take a pic of the .338 mag with a round in it to show you the setup. I think they have some pics on their site as well....

For Doc Scholl.....I'm not expecting a zombie invasion so 5rd mags are fine. If I need more firepower the belt fed will take care of that angle. The whole point of precision rifles is to be far enough away to have the time to change mags when needed. Why add weight and complication with a double stack?
SRS.....the next best thing to being there.

What is the most popular caliber for this rifle? I think I would like to have the .308 and the 300 win mag. The 338 lupa is sweet but a bit expensive for me.

+1 for the 300 wm;
i ordered one ,just waiting the Dos let it go to germany..
in my opinion,on of the best long range and hunting cartridge,
waiting for my rifle i reload 220 smk for steel target beyond 1000 yards and 200 game king for boar hunting.
i wish i could find berger 230 grs and this cartridge will have the same LR capacity than a 338lm..

I don't think so.... </div></div>

A 230 grain berger in a 300 Norma (338 Norma necked down to 30 caliber) has similar ballistics to the 338 LM. The .300 WM is a great round but no bullet out there will allow it to match the 338 LM.

Only if you need/want the capability of the 338 LM.

Many SRS owners seem to go with a 308 and 338 LM. Though some are now skipping the .308 and going with one of the 6.5 caliber conversions.

I had a trg 42 in 338 lm few years ago and sold it because don't need a 338lm;i didn't shoot past 1200 very often and the 338 lm is,in my opinion,to much powerful for european game ,even for the big boars at long range.
but as the DTA is a multicaliber plateform ,maybe will i have a 338 ..
but i'm currently waiting for my 300 and if i'm comfortable with this rifle i will order a 7-08 rem or maybe a 243 as a trainer and smaller game rifle.

I got my 22" 308 SRS barrel last week, cleaned it yesterday, and took it shooting for the first time today.

I shot 5 shots at 50 yards to get it on paper, 2 more at 100 to get a zero, then shot the 5 shot group below.

I then settled down, concentrated more on my breathing, and shot the 100 yard 5 shot group below. I blew the fifth shot - I felt it as I did it. I had a great group going until then and lost it trying for that fifth shot.

I then moved back to 200 yards and shot the group below. I shot one round with my 100 yard zero so I could measure how much elevation I needed (hole on the bottom of the target) and then shot this 5 shot group. It appears I pulled one of the five shots here too. The other four are just over 0.5" center to center.

I was on the fence for awhile as to whether to buy one of these or not. I am an average shot at best. If anyone else is on the fence, I say go for it!

Personally, I just bought a 6.5x47 Lapua barrel and sent it to Beanland to ream it out to 6.5 Creedmoor. It's FREAKING AWESOME and stupid accurate!
