It's true that our kids get political views pushed on them at school. I've had my 9 yr old son come home and say things against Trump. He and his older sister who attends the same school had this song made up about it. I sat them down calmly and asked them what made them say that? In the end, it was what the teachers had taught them, a teacher taught them an anti-Trump song and the kids didn't even know why. So I explained it to them the best I could to a 9 and 12yr old. They now know, to beware of anyone pushing political crap like that on them and to educate themselves.

I also agree that we need to educate the younger generation. I am setting up an air rifle range in my backyard and helping organize a Jr CMP program in my county. I am working on educating the youth here about firearms and above all, firearms safety. I've seen so many kids terrified of even touching an air rifle. But once taught how to be safe you can see their minds open to it. After they fire that first pellet, you can see the tension break and they always say, can I shoot again?

That to me is removing the fear that is instilled in so many young people today. They see our side and point of view. I never discuss politics while teaching, I don't push my views on them. I simply just show them that handled properly firearms are perfectly safe, fun and not to be feared like it's Plutonium.

I along with many have been guilty of getting overzealous and talking shit when thinking about a possibility of a gun ban. I agree that we should start finding ways to work against this rather than upsetting like minded brothers. We need to find a way that doesn't make us look like thugs to change hearts and minds of those that are on neither side, that don't understand. It's the ones that are uneducated, undecided and unaware we need to reach out to. In a way that is respectable and not like a hellfire church sermon where you walk away thinking of it all burning. Use more common sense and less fear to teach. I work on it everyday.

You would think that there would be a common sense conversation, however those who oppose constitutional freedoms argue based on emotion and false narratives.

I have taken the position to have conversations without using negative adjectives or adverbs. Yeah so don't tell someone to pound sand or eff themselves.

We have to take the position of educating those who oppose. Before we hammer them with the facts and truth, we need to building a personal relationship with them so there can be a conversation. Changing an ideology doesn't happen overnight. I has taken decades for the socialists and communists to achieve the gains they enjoy today.

My personal experience with firearms with the DOD and outside is fairly broad. I can speak to all the fallacies of firearms as pronounced by the MSM, however the platform available to me to influence those who oppose firearms in any manner is non existent. Few view post via social media. MSM wont publish positive news about those who abide by the law and don't go on shooting sprees. The media will spin a positive event into a negative.

The only way to change the mentality of guns are evil and dangerous is to start with children, then teenagers, High-shoolers. While a recruiter, I use to take recruits to the local air to ground gun range, they'd watch A-10's, F18's drop practice bombs and shoot their gatling guns. We should use the active military and National Guard ranges around the nation and use them to educate the uneducated. Then will the ideology change.

So be nice and have a conversation, and if they become violent, well you know kill them ....

Perhaps one issue about it is that historically when running the odds, often being a bit too eager for actual violence and bloodshed can quite often wind up ruining your cause (in some cases that is why False Flag actions are done). Especially when you don't have enough public support.

Then in this day and age, sitting around and discussing things that border on being something that somebody could easily twist to claim an interpretation as direct calls for violence or unlawful activity, can easily be used against a cause, even if what you say is in jest, as someone in power looks for an excuse to clamp down on places saying things they don't like. Especially when basically everyone is preaching to the choir.

Why do we always have to take the high road and remain silent? Are we afraid? In our heart of hearts do we believe that this approach offers pragmatic and constructive solutions for us to remain relevant. I'm not even talking about parity. I am talking about relevant.

Personally, I am over it. I am not advocating for a civil war. I have kids and I don't wish it on them or anyone else's. I really don't care how anyone else chooses to lead their life or raise their children. I really just want to enjoy what I enjoy and to be left to live in peace.

I would think your intention is to have civil discourse, and part of the discourse is to discuss among the choir members how to sing the song in a way that it best communicates the message.

I don’t know how many at SH are fellow brothers in arms who’ve served. I took an oath. Support and defend the constitution against all enemies. I also am a sheepdog. I believe in defending those who are unable to do so as well as family. So when it comes to my tool box maintaining skills as a Rifle and pistol marksman, medical etc is an imperative. When it comes to defending freedom we need to learn from each other on how to communicate outside of forums like this.

I had an opportunity today to speak speak to an anti gun individual. We talked and discussed current weapons. He said no one should be able to own certain firearms like semi auto rifles. His premise was commercially available rifles could be easily converted into machine guns. We talked about how it’s accomplished. His perspective changed to the desire to go to a range and learn more.

Greg, don't be despondent, it serves no purpose you would actually promote. There is a way out of this that does not require force of arms but it will be difficult for many here to embrace. It is mundane. It is time consuming. It does not lead to instant gratification and involves being in consort with people and organizations that do not necessarily meet our focused standards. I do not deign to speak for Greg here but only myself. Nonetheless, I think he would agree with some and possibly most of it. There is a reason for the saying the "the good die young". War is fought by the young. The reason is that they are governed by emotion rather than analytical thought and they often don't recognize their mortality. They are led by junior officers who only marginally exceed there abilility to think analytically. The junior officers are led by senior captains and majors and some LTCs. These are the level of leadership that somehow believes that with enough force their ends will be achieved. Unfortunately, they rarely have a plan beyond an immediate tactical victory. The ultimate victory is in the hands of the general officers and the politicians whose motivations are self centered and are more interested in immortalizing their place in history.

The older we get, the more we desire peace. Greg and I are of the same vintage and the same war. We tire of conflict and bodies strewn across our landscape. We tire of the generals and politicians who shed not one drop of blood but many of us have unwavering devotion to the COTUS and
the promise of America.

The unfortunate answer is that we must embrace the methods of our adversaries.

Had a rough evening and night, mainly a significant bout with dehydration. Couldn't walk far, then couldn't stand. Had to get some salt into me as well as water, probably some flavor of heat stroke involved, too. It was 80 in the home before we got that back under control. Of course the field isn't level, of course the other children won't play nice. So what? Does that justify emulating them? Not while other means remain. We are still winning. The 'others' are playing the game of desperation; the rules don't favor them, so they stoop to the despicable. In post #59 i went on how our children got to shoot at the local VFW and American Legion ranges and the Elks too.
Those ranges were set up, for the most part, by WW II vets that knew the value of Marksmanship and Gun Safety and wanted to pass that along to ALL of the kids in the area. It was always open to all kids unless they were too young to hold the rifles, then we sandbagged them and taught breathing and trigger control. No one was left out.
With the help of DCM, CMP Dept of the Army etc. help with rifles and ammo, they did that for many years and those programs produced many fine shooters over the years as well as teaching a lot of kids that guns are fun and not to fear them but to respect them.
There used to be many High Schools that had rifle teams with their own ranges to practice on. Bringing a rifle to school was no big thing other than the other kids wanted to shoot it and see how well it would do.
A lot [ or most] of those ranges have been shut down now by the Enviros and various SJWs and the kids of today don't have a chance at learning anything about shooting such as their parents did.
Other than 4H, I don't see a lot of opportunity for our kids to learn and I see it as a MAJOR failure as to teaching Kids the right way.
In short, we have to teach the youth about shooting and how much fun it is and this is not going on at a rapid pace.
My children are now in the late 30 to 40 range and they do their part for my Grandchildren as best they can but my Grandchildren don't get to go participate in weekly shoots such as their parents did, only once in a while do they get to go shoot.
We should go, all all costs, to educating our young children. Teach them the Love of the Rifle and how much fun it is.
They are the Voters of tomorrow. FM

I've been thinking about my values and The 'Hide's, and for the life of this site, they have been in line. There's some change, and I'm the one who's changing. I am so tired of the Macho posturing. It's been here all along, and in times like this it flares. I guess I just lost patience. After nearly two decades, that's a distinct possibility.

It's very difficult to not add a metric shit ton of "The Past" into this thread regarding our esteemed "Member" formally from NewYorkistan. But I'll do what I normally do and refrain from wasting my time on a fucking novel of a post. "But", I will say this. I lurked on here for several years in the long long long ago. I didn't sign up till I had a question I desperately wanted to ask in the Reloading Section regarding a Headspace Issue I just couldn't figure out. So I did. I eventually got the answer I required, but not before going through a ton of belligerent horseshit from a certain self righteous asshole who apparently thought the question wasn't worthy of "The Hide". I know for a fact this asshole is personally responsible for running more good people off the Hide than any other 6 assholes combined. I wish I still had the PM's to plop down here, but they're long long gone. Time in grade here means squat. All it means if you've been a signed up "Member" since the beginning and have been a good person or an "Asshole", then you've either been a good person for a long long time, or an "Asshole". Get it?
