That is an excellent excerpt and pretty much sums up how history has always gone.

To reference the above post, there was (probably several) classified program(s) in progress with the goal to basically map the links between basically everybody in the USA & the world so "they" could at a glance see who might have talked to or communicated with someone. I am not sure if it is still in operation or not, but not long after that leaked out, it seems somebody decided, why do it secretly and at government expense when you could put a shiny tech nerd face on it & make it pay for itself & have the whole world willingly pour in all their data & connections & where they are every day & sound & motion continuous recordings along with pinpoint locations & links to everything they do online & everyone they communicate with?
Way too much of a wet dream for our intelligence agencies, for them Not to have been involved.
I can't blame our intelligence agencies for doing their mandate (Gather all the data and communications on everyone, for use as the government sees fit), as completely as possible.

Here's a little tidbit, a dirty little secret, at least some of the Mods are holding close to their chests, away from the eyes of the general membership.
Some years back, I was being subjected to the same sort of hounding personal vilification by another pack of esteemed members of The
'Hide, now gone for cause after being emboldened by the inaction of the Mods.
At that time, I PM'ed the Mod and inquired why it was being allowed to continue. He responded that I was not one of his favored forum members, and that he was simply waiting for me to say or do something so he could ban me permanently. When I protested this, he said I should take it up with LL; so I did.
The next day, the Mod PM' me back informing me that from now on the Mods would be washing their hands of me because I went over their heads. They would be turning those heads and looking the other way whenever people jumped me, that I was on my own, and that I could expect the Mods to do precisely what they are doing right here. Nothing.
Think about how this would read if it was you sitting in my seat.
Doubters can ask LL for confirmation, he's an honest guy and I don't think he has any reason to to be anything but truthful about this.
I will not be bullied by soreheads with their panties in a knot, or by Mods who think they can get by with any damned thing they want to in direct defiance of the site rule.

I don't agree with a whole ton of shit that gets bandied about in the Bear Pit ... most who are vocal here are much more conservative than I, and there is indeed an echo chamber effect that goes on here, with fellas attempting to one-up each other with more virulent (and sometimes pretty funny) posts. That said, it helps keep me honest about what others think, and most importantly about what I think.

Since the hush hush meeting of the Soros and Bloomberg, Oprah and Teddy Boy Turner factions early this year, all manner of loony and not so loony ventures have been coming out of the woodwork, ranging from a Republican (Vermont of all places) Governor going all strange on gun control, to California hatching a crackpot initiative to split the state into three separate, sovereign (oh sure...!) state.

I exchanged a PM or 2 with you and sent checks in the USPS, with return address, what little bit I could spare, with a note it was from the "East Bank of the South Platte River" in hopes it would give you a little bit of humor and make things better.
I did that several times, it was never much, $50 bucks or so, and I was sending what little bit I saved and would normally have used it to make a better rifle or buy reloading supplies or whatever. I gave it up to help someone I thought needed it more that I.

Well, thank you, Mike. I was the actual recipient.
I was just a year out of CABGx4 heart surgery, following bouts with both Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The second bout had exhausted our family's health insurance, and I was facing billing in the high 6 figures. Meanwhile, my Wife had a case of Versa related toxic shock, and was three weeks into a coma in the ICU.
I never saw the receipts come in, and the names of the donors were never furnished to me since a decision had been made to protect the privacy of the donors, and not made by me. This was made clear to all donors at the time.
I was literally living in the ICU waiting room for several weeks staying by my Wife's bedside in a gown and mask. This was made clear to all donors at the time. The total raised came to about a little over $2000, and it came at a time that literally saved our home from foreclosure by a matter of just a few hours. The check's were cashed, but did you ever see an endorsement bearing my name? Nope, but that simple little fact doesn't serve your agenda, so that's by the wayside.
Leave it to you to turn that moment of much appreciated generosity into a self serving indictment to throw in the face of your opponent in a totally unrelated argument. I hope you receive all appropriate credit for your contribution to this discussion.
