Anybody using a Millet Scope, and if so what's your opinion of them? I'm considering buying a LRS-1 for my SPS Tactical project. They seem to have some nice features but I wanted some owners input first.

+1

Chances are you'll find mixed reviews everywhere.

First impression, I was impressed with the TRS-1. Unfortunately I've had a bad experience and one of the guys from Duren Customs had as well. So they're not getting any positive marks from me at this point as I've had Wally World scopes outlast my TRS-1. Still waiting to hear from Bushnell as to if they'll be rectifying the problem or if they'll be trying to use the forward assist on me.

My opinion so far: Save your pennies and buy a Falcon Menace or something much further up the food chain.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I've had 4 TRS-1's, still have 2 of them. I've never had the first problem with any of them! They have all tracked perfectly, the glass is clear to me, the turrest are positive, and they're built like a tank! Now that they have 1/4 moa clicks and come up counters, I think they're a great scope for the money. I have Nightforce scopes and Leupold MK4's and are these scopes better than the TRS'1.....well yeah!! But they damn well better be since they cost 7 times as much. For the money, in my opinion, the TRS-1 is hard to beat!

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I did some heavy research on them and found that they do not hold up, hard to get replaced and are being bought out by bushnell. They offer alot for the price, but other than looking good I think there are better budget optics to be had, or quality optics that may be slightly used at a good price.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

When you say research do you mean reading what others say about them on the internet or actually putting one through the paces. The ones that I have/had are not safe queens. I've used them and used them alot. I've never had a single problem out of any of them. Also there was a guy in the 2 week sniper school that I went through that had one on his rifle and it performed flawlessly. We were not easy on our equipment during that school! Just to clarify, I'm talking about the TRS-1's not the LRS as I have no experience with that scope.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I had a 4-16 X 56 BuckGold that broke the first time I took it to the range. Damn shame too as I liked the glass, mil dot reticle (SFP) and side parallax adjustment. Would be a good value if it held up. I sent mine back to Midway and replaced it with a Burris Tactical that is holding up well.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

They are decent starter scopes, I think. I have a TRS-1 that is holding up alright for the past eight months or so. Glass is ok up to about 13-14x than things go downhill. Turrets are a lil mushy now but it still tracks well. One thing I noticed recently at 16x, when I back down on the power ever so slightly, the reticle and sight picture cant then set back straight. Odd, yes. But it still tracks ok. I'm guessing Bushnell would probably fix this but I have not sent it to them yet. I would probably not buy another one. Especially cuz I have a USO on the way

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

get the super sniper. theres a half a dozen in my cirlce of friends, and all have been perfect. i had to have a brand x w all the features. worked great for a year, till after a 3.5hr drive to go shootin, the reticle spun w the magnification dial. it was waay cold, and the cheap POS simply failed. ive never owned a millet, but w the bad press they get i never will. was a sucky 3+hr drive back from the range that day. im on a budget, so i use super snipers now on everything. couple original 10xs, and ive got one of the 10x HDs otw

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I have used one of their DMS scopes on an AR for personal use. It seemed to function fine but I did not shoot at ranges over 200m with is. For the money, I see it as an acceptable scope for the recreational shooter. Would I take it with me to Afghanistan, no. I haven't been able to beat on it, nor have I seen anyone else beat on it like I would if I had it on a deployment. I guess I'm just no ballsy enough to be the guniea pig who takes it to a real fight for testing purposes.

Plinking = yes. Combat = not me, not at this time.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

i had one that i got in trade a while back, never mounted it....
there was no need to . glass was junk, turrets were mushy, you needed a pipe wrench to turn the wagon wheel side focus/paralax adj......and it was HUGE. horrible in low light unless you were on 4x...

not to mention the fact it was sfp mil/moa.....
sold it to a ninja
buy a falcon or ss, or save your pennies and get the new vortex pst thats coming out.

just my 2c worth though

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I love my Millett. I have a buck gold 4-16x56 that has taken me out to 800 yards a few times last december. It tracks well and every time I do a box test it always returns to the first point. Have never had to rezero.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I've got 5 rifles with Millett Scopes on them and all of them get used hard - never had a problem with any of them.

Last week, my .308 fell out of the truck and landed on the frozen ground hard enough to smash the elevation turret cap of my Millett 4-16 X 56. I figured the scope was toast - a trip to the range next morning proved me wrong...

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I can tell you from personal experience, My brand new Millett LRS-1 lasted 34 rounds and fell apart internally. It's back at Bushnell for repair/replacement and we'll see what happens. So far I've not heard from anyone yet.

What caliber rifle were you using?

All of the above are supposed to have been resolved. Bushnell already has a hand in, resolving the customer service issues, and supposed to be addressing the quality of pre-2009 models (new models have the top bolted turrets).

Only been about a week with my issue, so I cannot comment on how it was handled yet.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

It seems funny to me that some people, like me, think that the TRS-1 is a very capable scope in it's price range. Then others say that they are the biggest piece of shit to ever be bolted to a rifle! The 4 TRS-1's that I have had or still have have been excellent. I wonder if all of the people trashing them have actually used one or if they're just jumping on the you have to have at least a thousand dollar scope to be able to put rounds on target bandwagon. I am well aware that the TRS-1 is not a NXS, Leupold, USO, S&B and so on and so forth but it's not a bad scope as far as budget optics go. Would I put one on the bolt gun that goes to work with me everyday? Nope, absolutely not! Not because I have reason to believe it would fail in the moment of truth because I don't. I just want to have the piece of mind that I have the best optics that I can possibly afford on that rifle. However, I would have absolutely no hesitation about using one in a competition, on an important hunt, or any other situation where someone's life isn't depending on my shot.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

I have owned several, I have had to send two in for repair. In both repair situations, I received a brand new in box replacement no questions asked within a week or so. One was a couple years ago, the other was a couple months ago. Over all the scopes are a good buy for the money, and in my opinion the customer service can not be beat.

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

Currently own two DMS-1's, one mounted on a M-4gery and the other a Sig 556. They both have held up to a few thousand rounds of typical range work and one carbine course. For the money, it's a good product. Would I take it to OEF? I get ACOG's for combat, so no. This is a budget alternative for 0-200 meters, and so far they are performing well.

That's what Bushnell has done for me. As of today they had a replacement TRS-1 boxed up to ship out. Hopefully this won't be a repeat issue...especially since there's a Vortex Viper that might be in my future now.

Is this the one that was on my rifle? I never had any issues with it.

ETA. Just got a card in the mail. NEW scope on the way!!! </div></div>

Congrats!

I received my postcard notification AND my new TRS-1 on the same day! Now I just have to decide if I'm going to keep it or part with it.

So let me take a second to give some props to Bushnell. No sunshade with my 1st TRS-1, sent one NCTM. Broke the buckle to my Uncle Mike's duty belt, found one in parts bin and sent NCTM. Lens shattered on my TRS-1 (possibly made prior to Bushnell involvement), replaced and sent promptly NCTM. I even offered to pay for the sunshade and the buckle!

NCTM = No Cost To Me

Re: Opinion Of Millet Scopes?

i sent mine in and got a new mil/mil version in exchange. 24.6 mils elevation and it seems fine so far. after you get to the right person, or any person, customer service is great
