Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

I've been looking at options for replacing the Tupperware stock on my Browning A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker in .308 and hit on the Bell & Carlson Medalist. This is a sporter rifle that goes hunting on occasion but mostly gets used at the rifle range shooting prone with a sling, seated, and standing. The 7779 looks like the one for my rifle.

I'm looking for opinions on this stock, particularly whether the forend affords a good grip (the factory stock is very slippery). I see that one of the Medalist options is a black textured stock, but my eye is really drawn to the black with gray spiderweb finish. Is their MaxGuard finish worth it?

Thanks,

Andras

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

I had a vanguard sub-moa 30-06 in a medalist stock. They sell it as their "accuguard" stock or something like that. I also had one on a Mk V accumark in the same caliber. The accumark held sub .5 moa for 5 shots on a normal basis. The vanguard hung around a moa, but was very consistant despite a loose chamber and a horrible trigger. I liked those two stocks a lot. I will probably try one of the stocks like the one on Remington's XCR lr tactical when I build a stick. No bedding to mess with or worry about. I like the aluminum bedding systems. The one on my 5r milspec HS precision performs very well(though I just can't like that palm swell or the need for a stock pack to raise the cheek height). I don't know if the B&C is as bullet proof as a McMillan or Manners(which I like both of very much), but I don't beat on a rifle like the guys in uniform. The Medalist are very well balanced at the sporter weights and I want to change a hunting rifle or two to them as expenses allow. No experience with the black color or new finish though. Had dark timber on the sub moa ss and black/grey spiderwebbed on the accumark.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

I handle one and liked it. Ordered the B&C Tactical Medalist A5 adjustable last week. Went backorder so I have to wait. As others have stated, good deal for the money. I think you will be happy.

Havent used the "tactical" versions at all but do like their sporter styles medalists. It will definitely give you more grip than the slick stock you have now and will also be a lot more solid. I replaced the piece o junk adl stock on my 700 turning it into a bdl and am quite pleased.

B&C Medalist are GTG in my book. If you dont have $800 for a Mcmillan go for the HS or B&C. ALthough if you do have that kind of money I would definitly opt for the MCM.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

ACcuracy-wise, I think they are just as good. You don't have as many options as with McM, but then again they are much cheaper. Toyota of stocks: many people will be happy with them.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all the helpful feedback. It's good to know that I can order the stock sight unseen without concern that it's a dud.

I also didn't know that one could build custom search engines with Google and add them to iGoogle. Very slick!

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

It will never be a manners or mcmillan but my medalist tactical is a solid piece of kit. The full length aluminum block really makes it stiff. It is on a savage and with a dab of bedding compound in the recoil lug area it really improved the rifles capapbilities. I am happy with the purchase. The only complaints I have are merely asthetic and could be solved if someone was so inclined. I dont care for the forend being so sqared off but with a little elbow grease that could be addressed. Other than that I love it.

If you can afford manners or mcmillan get one if not get the medalist tactical. You wont be dissapointed.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

My Win M70 Extreme Weather in .30-06 comes w/ a B & C Medalist Sporter stock. It has been a sub-MOA shooter with everything but Hornady Superperformance ammo and has delivered 1/2" 100 yd performance with my standard match hand loads of 47.0gr of IMR 4895 and 168gr SMKs.

I decided to try the same stock in my Rem 700 SPS SS in .308W. I received my black w/ gray web today and will be putting it on tomorrow and going to the range Friday...stay tuned. bTW, it looks great.

I ordered along w/ a chronograph from Midway USA...received in 4 days via UPS Gound.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

I just mounted my 700P in an A5 and it improved the groups and is very comfortable. The weight really steadied the rifle too. I got mine from redhawkrifles.com and his prices can't be beat by anyone I've seen. I also bought a Wyatt DBM. Fit was great but the jury is still out on the magazines.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

Put a B&C M40 on my R700. It's sub MOA. No bedding. Stiff and feels good. Good bang for your buck.

Re: Opinions on Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks

I put a A5 adjustable lop & check on my R700 and love it! Mine is tan with black and I get compliments every time I'm out with.
Between rolling my own and the stock I'm shooting one hole groups when I do my part.
