Rifle Scopes Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

Re: Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

I'm not a fan of BDC, they're never going to match to your load. 1/8th MOA is a bit much on the turrets as well.

30MOA base for 600 yards also seems pretty extreme. Just checked the scope and 30MOA travel in the scope and you're never going to be able to set a 100yard zero. At 600 yards you're going to see less than 40" of bullet drop, so you'll need less than 7MOA of adjustment to get there.

Thank you for your input good points. I thought there was just 15 moa up and 15 moa down. Up in North Texas I think there are 1000 yd ranges I can go to.

A big concern I have is the windage not much adjustment.

Nikon doesn't this scope or the 8x32 with the mil dot reticle

Re: Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

Well if you've got a 30 MOA base, then you start at +30MOA, then your max down(-15MOA with a 30MOA scope) will only be +15MOA. So you couldn't even get a 600 yard zero with that setup.

Are you looking at this as "I want these features" or "I can only spend X dollars" on a scope?

Re: Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

LOL Kalman I don't know what I'm doing. I read that at 1000 yards around 50 moa is needed. At 600 yds 18 moa is needed.

All I really know is every person has a different moa.

I wasn't worried about 100 yard "0" but maybe I should.

But the Nikon is out now. I went to Midway and bought this Konus M-30 8x32x52

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=183328

All the reviews I could find were good and for $339.00 I gave it a shot.

Now Kalman What kind of base and rings should I get? It has 50 moa of adjustment.

P>S> Thank you for your input

Burris XTR rings with a 20MOA EGW base is probably a good match for what you've gotten.

Who does!! lol. Actually I don't drink. Diet coke, Black coffee, Ice tea no sugar is all I drink.

I take it your not impressed with my selection or my thriftiness. My ex wives would use the word cheap. lol

I'm 59 yrs old. I don't hold any delusion about being a national rank shooter or being deployed to Afghanistan with my 700 and Konus scope.

I only paid $600.00 for the rifle, scope, case, and strap. A package deal. I could not see spending a thousand dollar on a scope.

This will get me on my belly at the range, and we will see if I end up with $10,000 rig or not.

+1 for Kalman's recommendation. A 20MOA base and the Burris XTR rings can get you out to 700+ yards with that Nikon Monarch.

Re: Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

Don,
I just wanted you to know Chase at Optics Planet is absolutely correct. I ran some numbers for you using the Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 Nikoplex on a .308 with a 168 gr. bullet and you can easily get to 800 yards with what you are suggesting.
How well you will shoot is up to you but this absolutely gives you the potential to shoot to 800 yards and even to 1000 with some adjustments. Check out my print out from Nikon's Spt On web-site for more information Don. Also, you are correct, there are some great places to shoot at 1000 yards N. of where you live.

Re: Opinions on Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 Scope

Kalman I want thank you for taking the time to help me.

I didn't understand the importance of a 100 yard zero. I did some research and now I understand how my reloads, my rifle, and I shoot at 100 yards is a key factor when shooting at longer distances.

So I'll go back to the 100 yard range tighten everything up before moving on.
