I've got a new Larue Stealth coming shortly, and I am looking for some glass to put on top. I plan on using this combo out to about 600 yards, with about 75% of use being < 300 yards.

My budget is about $1,400 at the very max, however, I have a 2nd AR15 upper that needs an optic, so if I spend less, I can use the remainder towards that.

Currently, I am considering two main choices.

Option #1 - Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40. All reviews have been positive, and seems like the right class of scope for this rifle. If I purchased this, than I will also get a VX-R 1.25-4 for my other AR15.

Option #2 - Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44 w/G2DMR. Also heard great things about this scope. FFP would be nice, but I doubt I will be ranging often at lower power.

Anything that should make me want to eliminate either of the above choices?

Re: Optic choice for DMR/SPR rifle.

With my experience between the newer bushys and the leupolds (mkIV) I wouldn't hesitate to go with the bushy.

I personally chose the Bushnell elite HDMR and have not regretted it for a single second. It's just more robust than the newer Leupys in my opinion. Everything "feels" better and the optics are a tad brighter and sharper to boot.

No. They still supply the 2.5-10x24 to the military. They offer the 2.5-10x32 on the commercial market.

Either way, I'm not really up for waiting 5 months for a scope. Next year, maybe I will be able to pony up for a custom rifle and a nicer scope (why not, it's a tax write off!), but for now, I have to keep it reasonable.

Re: Optic choice for DMR/SPR rifle.

You might want to consider the new Vortex 1-6x. One can be had for a little over your stated budget ($1,600)

The glass is very clear and you can easily either dial or hold out to 600yds. It also has a very bright daytime visible dot which is very nice for close targets.

Outside of that, a used NF 2.5-10x or a USO 1.8-10x would work well and probably be within your price range. Keep an eye on the Optics For Sale forum, they pop up all the time.

PS: Lookey what I just found

Re: Optic choice for DMR/SPR rifle.

If you can save up for a bit I would look at the March 1-10x24, smaller than NF by quite a bit, super light weight and SUPERB glass and adjustments. Plus 1-10 is pretty hard to beat.
