Hello, I need help picking out an optic for the Vudoo I just purchased. I am looking to spend $2000 or less but could stretch it out maybe a few hundred more if there was a really good deal in the PX. I am not afraid of buying a quality scope second hand. Would like a milling reticle and a max power around 30x or so. I would also like to have a minimum parallax 25 yards or less.

I have been reading a lot and I know the common suggestion is a Vortex from Liberty Optics. I have also read about Burris XTR III and the Tract Toric UHD. I am waiting till Black Friday to buy the chassis for the gun so I am not in a huge rush for the optic and mount (I will need a mount but I am not figuring that into the $2000).

With that budget just get a nightforce nx8-32 Mil-xt reticle straight from Doug at cameralandny or cstactical or milehigh shooting accessories. If you have really done a lot of reading here then this should be a no brainer.

Super good deal on the Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 at Cameraland right now!!!

This is what I put on mine, IMO the dot reticle is perfect for a .22 at close range or at distance. After zeroing mine I was shooting some groups at 100 and I could see the bullet in flight just before it hit the target. I've got the floating cross reticle on my long range rifle. Both are good, but I prefer the dot on a .22.

I have the Vortex Viper PST in 5-25X and 3-15X on my rimfire rifles. What really helps is the levels and throw levers.

Whatever you get, you should get a level for it.

I've got a Bushnell Forge 3-18x56 on my NRL22 rig and it works great for me, but I have centerfire rifles that wear a razor gen 2, Cronus BTR, and an Optika6 5-30x56. For your budget both the razor and the Cronus are excellent choices. Optically my eyes slightly prefer the Cronus glass and I like the cleaner view of the APRS reticle, but the razor also offers locking turrets, 0.2 MIL hashes, and wider FOV. The Optika6 is no slouch either and the MRAD reticle is my favorite. In that price range there's lots of good choices, these are just the ones that I have experience with.

for under 1k you could pick up a sightron s3 10x50x60 mm yea its only has a 30mm tube but that nice clear view it gives is really nice when shooting a tiny 22lr being able to see your impacts is sweet .

I have a Cronus BTR with the APRS1 reticle on my .22 and it is excellent. I personally would go with the APRS1 with the dot over the APRS, and actually sold my first Cronus to get that reticle. The Cronus has a great view at max power. It is extremely easy to get behind for a long shooting session, which is a big factor for me in bench shooting.

I used to have a Vudu 8-32SFP and it was well made but head position was too critical and the glass wasn’t as good to my eyes as the Cronus. It also had no zero stop and capped turrets, which I don’t like. If I change back to SFP for some reason, I would get a Delta Stryker 5-50. I would also consider a Sightron SV 27001 with the non-ED glass just for the unique extra fine adjustment side focus knob, but I’d like to look through one first to check out the image quality.

What kind of shooting are you planning on doing? I've primarily shot NRL22 / Rimfire PRS for the past year and have gone through all sorts of optics. I ended up with a Vortex AMG mainly because I like the reticle the most for quick holdovers. 12shots, 90s, I'm always doing holdovers in matches and going from zero, 1.8, 3.5, 7mils back and forth I find the AMG reticle my favorite. Also the weight of the AMG for balancing a rimfire rifle is huge. There's just not enough weight up front even with a weight kit because most chassis were designed for 24-26" M24 barrels for balance. So dropping weight in the rear was huge.

So weight wise, NX8 4-32, or Razor HD AMG, then choose your reticle.

Ignoring weight/reticle.

Tract 4.5-30x56 has some nice glass. Really impressed. I was shooting after sunset last night and couldn't see shit in the AMG and the Tract picked up the targets fine.

If you get a mil discount, go for the Leica PRS rifle... that is some great glass and I personally like the reticle. I run that on my centerfire now.

It will be PRS rimfire style shooting so same use case as you. I didn't even think about any of the discount programs. Father in law is retired LEO.

Does the AMG provide enough magnification on the high end for 300+ yard shots on small targets?

I don't ever shoot above 14 really when I run PRS matches. Targets grow bigger with distance. The only time I run it at 20-24x is shooting the 1/4" at 50 yards. Shooting out to 300-400 yards I can run even lower because you're shooting like a 12" plate.
