I need to gather some suggestions from the collective expertise of this forum regarding optics Suggestions for DPMS Panther MK12 7.62. This rifle is ordered and waiting for it to come in. From what I understand I have a few months before its delivered to me. Having said that I want to top it off with optics.
<span style="font-style: italic">I will make the disclaimer now, I am no "operator" nor a wanna be. Just a guy that likes to shoot, nothing more. </span>

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Bud</span>get</span>: $1400 ish (give or take), this should include mounts and the secondary sight. I can go above the budget as needed.

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Purp</span>ose</span>: main optic is to be a variable power for target shooting up to 800 yards or basically the limit of the rifle. I would like to have a offset optic, like an RMR at the 10 or 11o'clock positon (<span style="font-style: italic">I am a lefty</span>) for the option of an close shot (<span style="font-style: italic">ex: move and shoot drills for close targets</span>). Basically, a battle rifle set up with a little CQB thrown in (<span style="font-style: italic">yes, I know the 7.62 is not an ideal CQB set up</span>).

I appreciate and look forward to your suggestions.

Re: Optics Suggestions for DPMS Panther MK12 7.62

Since it sounds like it will be a while before the rifle comes in I would try to wait patiently for the release of some of the new 1-6 or 1-6.5 power variables coming out from Super Sniper, Leupold, and Bushnell.

If you are set on having a secondary offset optic, you might consider a Super Sniper 3x9 or even a 5-20 without illumination to try to keep it in the price range you are looking at.

JCB,

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely patient (I have to be) to some of those newer offering sound tempting. Any have some links or info about them?
With the secondary sight, I am looking for something in the form factor of a RMR type sight. I have flexibility in the budget, but I want to keep the overall price in the neighborhood of my budget. In other words if it means spending a little more to get a much better optic, I am willing to spend the coin.
The mounting options for primary and secondary sights are mind blowing. Any time tested and proven choices anyone can recommend?

BCP,

Thanks for the reply, and I should have been more specific.
I would like an illuminated, SFP ret, something in the "horseshoe or donut" style BDC.
Weight is a factor, I woud prefer a lighter optic, and yes I am familiar in the use of holdover shots.

Any input on these scopes? I can find anywhere if the Burris is FFP or SFP.
The Leupolds is SFP, Illume, and mil/mil (except with the 1.25 -4x20 is MOA).

Re: Optics Suggestions for DPMS Panther MK12 7.62

I have that leupold 3-9 scope on a 223 carbine. It's okay. My short list would be:

Nightforce 2.5-10
IOR 2.5-10
Leupold M3
Super Sniper 3-9

In an ADM or Bobro mount with backup irons of your choosing (does mk12 come with flip ups? not sure).

My AR308 has an IOR 2.5-10 FFP.

Thanks BCP. Yes, the MK12 comes with BUIS:
Sights:

Midwest Industries Flip-up rear sight, windage adjustable only
MI Flip-up front sight w/gas block

What are the +/- for the ADM and Bobro mounts?
