I have had good experiences with Optics Planet and usually send business their way.
Problem is the trend many of the online sites have been following. Their website either shows an item in stock, or no inventory information at all. You order and get the dreaded "out of stock" email.
It is best to call ahead, but in this day of eCommerce and JIT(Just in Time) logistic solutions there is no excuse not to have an intuitive website.
The company either has the product you want or it does not, period. If they can not afford a real time inventory system, then simply place "call for availability" to the product description.
Unfortunately some businesses take your money up front to remain liquid and purchase inventory for other backordered items. I am not saying that Optics Planet does this, but if they have your money for 60 days, the money is not just sitting there.
I dont mind waiting a few months for an item I really want, but I also detest the whole 2 week BS phone call. Optics Planet can not control when they receive inventory from vendors, but they can sure control empty promises to the customer.
I heard a lot of negative feedback about Bud's Gun shop, but on my first order, the rep looked up my item, found it in stock, then placed it on hold until I sent a MO. I received an email after every stage of the process: Order recieved pending funds, funds received, order sent to shipping, item shipped with tracking, order delivered.
