Hey all,
Just spent an awesome morning taking my youngest bro (11) squirrel hunting for his very first time. This was done under PA's Mentored Youth Hunting program. I'll spare you the details, but, a kid that is too young to get a license can now hunt under the close supervision of an adult provided they follow certain special requirements as well as normal seasons, bag limits, and all other regulations.

He used a Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge to kill these 5 grays and one fox squirrel in just over two hours.

I'd be very interested to hear if any other Hide members are taking advantage of this opportunity.

Feel free to post pix and stories!

That's a nice fox squirrel too. Not much beats "shooting a limit" in 2 hours ! </div></div>

I feel the same way! I know a lot of kids that are ready to hunt like this by the time they are 7 or 8...my little bro was already "blood-thirsty" by the time he was 6 and ready as a marksman/gun handler by the time he was 8. I am just thrilled that I can get him into the action now before he loses interest. If I had been able to get another few kids hooked a little earlier, they would have stuck with it for a lifetime, I believe.

I am in the process of putting together a very simple .22 hunting rifle for this guy...the 20 Ga. was honestly almost too easy for him!
