Painting a Pelican

I think I'd haul the thing around with pride, at least you've used it and it's contents. I'd bet the thing would have to be bead-sand blasted for any coating to take, may be rather pricey.

From Pelican website:
"What adhesives and/or paints can be used on the cases?
Due to the nature of the polypropylene being chemically inert, very little will attack the material. That also means that very few adhesives and paints will adhere satisfactorily. For an adhesive, we have found that 3M’s DP-8005 two-part adhesive works very well with our case material. It has also been reported that “Shoe Goo” works very well. For paint, Krylon has a product out called Fusion that they claim will adhere to polyolefin-based materials like polypropylene."

Put stickers on it, mine has a bullet hole through it, won't float anymore but still hold the rifles in it fine besides, scratches are for man, pristine equipment is for posers.
Cheers

Lester,

If I look at my profile pic you'll see my painted pelican case. I bought it from reximus here on the hide as a matter of fact!

Paint looks great with some minor chips on the corners because of my hauling around. If it ever gets terrible I'll have it repainted

I krylon'd my deployment cases over 5 years ago so they would stand out in a sea of Pelican cases. They still have most of the paint on 'em from then. They've held up well over a multitude of trips where the baggage throwers have tried their best to do damage to them.

I have painted a few, as well as some plastic drums/barrels etc. Through trial and error i learned that it works best to lightly score/sand the surface, then apply several VERY VERY light coats of the aforementioned "fusion" , remember that you don't need total coverage in each coat of paint, the lighter the coat the better chance it has of not chipping. Don't worry about total coverage in the 1st coat, you can always touch it up after it cures. I also was able to find a (somewhat pricey) matte clear coat sealer, also made by krylon
