Rifle Scopes Parralax setting not matching scale on dial

On a couple of my scopes the parralax setting doesn't jive with the printed numbers on the dial. For example, at a 300 yard target I have to set the dial at approximately 500 yards to eliminate parralax. Also I find the clearest focus DOES jive with the correct dial setting but parralax is obvious. The guns generally shoot well and it really doesn't bother me that much but I just wanted the Hide's opinion. Is this enough cause to contact the maker? The scopes in question are an Athlon Midas Tac 6-24 and a Vortex Viper PST II 3-15. Like i said I am generally happy with these scopes but being OCD I just want to be sure there aren't bigger problems...

Thanks!

I only have one scope where it seems to line up, but who does it by the dial marks anyway? You’re looking through it while adjusting parallax, so the marks are pretty irrelevant. It’s more to get you in the neighborhood when you get on the rifle IMO.

I was gonna say why look at it while adjusting, your supposed to be watching the reticle and target image to remove the parallax from it, but thought it would get lost.

Sometimes after I have adjusted it, and I have finished with that yard line, I will see how close it lines up for reference, but rarely do you look at the dial.

Fig is right though

Thanks for the encouraging info. It probably doesn't help that I'm nearsighted as hell and use bifocal glasses. So I gather that it is best to dial out the parralax as best as possible even though it may present a very slight loss of clarity (barely noticeable but it's there)?

So, are you adjusting parallax at every yardage for a multi-target match-stage on the clock? I generally dial it to where I think it will be good before the stage start, and usually don't mess with it from there- mostly because I forget to. But, I've also observed that focus is a much broader window at the low to med mag ranges I typically use for a stage. I only really fret about parallax on those rare paper stages where I use max mag. I've looked down after stages and seen the parallax WAY off the target yardages, but it was good enough to make the necessary hits...

The above notwithstanding, I'm no pro shooter and enter the local PRS style match for recreation and to hang with the people I've met there...

Mostly PRS shooter i know..during competition locked their parallex INFINITY and good scope offers parralex free from 300 and beyond with that settings

I don’t know about others but I rarely touch the parallax knob while on the clock. I just set it to “close enough” before the stage and go. Having numbers that match really helps in this respect, but the only scope I’ve found that remotely matches is the Kahles 6-24.

That being said most of my scopes are fairly tolerant and a midrange setting is good from 400-800 yards.

This is one thing that Leupold got right with the Mk6/Mk5. The parallax knob has set screws. I get the scope absolutely parallax free at 100 yards, line up the knob and set it. I care about 100 yards the most for load work up, etc. The rest of the numbers on the dial are close enough. I don't understand why other mfg's don't do this. If you are a fudd hunter and don't understand parallax you can just leave it at the factory setting and have a shitty knob that doesn't line up like every other scope out there, but it's nice to have the ability to fix their fuckery from the factory.

I don't think the distance numbers on the parallax knobs on any of my scopes are accurate. I think the Vortex GE doesn't even have numbers on it except for 25 yards. I had one scope though that was so far off and pretty much non functional that I sent it in to Vortex and they ended up replacing the parallax adjustment on it. It actually works well now.
