I don't know if you are aware of this, or even if it matters, however, there are a number of posts of items for sale here on the Hide, where one payment option given by the seller is "gift." PP is very clear in their TOS: use of the "gift" option to purchase an item can have the following effect:
1. it's a violation of their TOS for the simple reason that an item is being purchased and essentially the purchaser and the seller are engaging in a fraudulent transaction since using the "gift" option implies nothing of value has been purchased.
2. if the transaction goes belly up, e.g., the item gets lost in shipping, the seller is a bullshitter and had nothing to sell, or sends a brick, or, blah, blah, or the purchaser says, "You sent me a brick, where's my scope, rifle, etc.?," yet purchaser gets the item and keeps it, seller is screwed, and will have a helluva time getting PP to help.
3. some frequent users of PP on a high-end photography site I'm on have had their accounts frozen or blocked because they were discovered to have used the "gift" option.
