Pelican Hold-Open

Re: Pelican Hold-Open

Here is a good example, looking for something like this, notice the little cables that prevent the case from opening up all the way.

I would bet that a quick trip to Lowe's or Home Depot and you could do this yourself in a half hour with a cordless drill, one drill bit, and a screwdriver.

I think you would have to go past 90 degree vertical with the lid otherwise it wouldn't take much to cause it to slam shut.
Just to where it's own weight would keep it open.

I agree, the case pictured is much deeper, so when it's open to 90, the weight of the top half is keeping it open. the 1750 I think would be unstable like that. I'd think you'd want a rigid support to hold it open.

Re: Pelican Hold-Open

If your planning to use it at shows I would avoid the cable as it can easily cause the case to slam shut if its bumped. I would instead look at something that can be installed when you get to the show perhaps a short fiberglass or dowel that has a socket in the top and bottom of the case and a small set screw to hold it in place or something of that nature similar to what you use to hold the hood of your car open.

Re: Pelican Hold-Open

When I purchased my Pelican case they offered a compatible locking blade hinge set. I just checked but didn't see it on their web page. It may take a call to Pelican customer service (they are very helpful).

The reason their kit is better than other solutions is the directions which show correct placement of the mounting points for good operation AND the rubber gasket which goes on with the pop rivet. Without the rubber gasket, the case does not seal completly. Water, air and debris can work its way into the case.
