I sometimes think that all these "evaluations", tests, and requests for proposals done by the military, are done to create jobs for themselves. I could pick five guys from this forum, and if we were assigned to pick a pistol, PDW, precision rifle, or carbine, I'll bet we could get it done within a month. And that includes discussing the parameters of the requirements, selecting and testing all possible candidates, and making a final recommendation.

I guess the problem isn't really the people doing the evaluation, rather the problem is with all the red tape they have previously put in their own way in order to prevent someone crying "foul".

I'd be on that committee if I could. I have to say though I was swayed when reading the medical reports and breakdown after the Ft. Hood shooing and the 5.7.

This is a request for information from multiple companies who may or may not get the Pentagon security contract. How the hell did we secure it before? Ahhh....I get it. A "privatization" program to save us money. I've watched privatization start in every facet of our society and it does not save money. A company wins the bid and the price goes up as soon as whichever Gov't entity (State, county, what dept. etc.) can no longer do the job the price goes up.

For something like securing the pentagon, common sense would tell me to look to hire people who have served as secret service agents protecting the Whitehouse, embassy security staff, or former military members whose duty was to protect high ranking officers in foreign countries. Between those groups I would expect a pretty decent security plan. If there was already a group who had done similar security work (something like an offshoot of groups such as Blackwater) the group of people I suggested earlier could likely come up with a fairly decent plan in a short time.

However as the Pentagon is one of the largest office buildings in the world, such a plan would require far study and knowledge than I have...so I wouldn't let myself be on the team. I know I don't have the knowledge to build a decent protective plan for such a facility...but I could sure find other people who DO have those skill sets.
