I have been drooling of Surgeon Rifles ever since I read about them back in 2007 if memory serves. I was a VERY broke college student at the time but had it in my mind that someday I would own one of their rifles. Fast forward a few years, I finally have the money and there are no actions to be found. I could buy one off Surgeon's Site but it's not the exact way I wanted. Well after trolling snipers hide and finding Phoenix Custom Rifles I called up Keith & Brad and they invited me over to the shop. Keith and I discussed the options and he let me know if I wanted a Surgeon all I had to do was find one.....easier said that done.
As luck had it Mark over at OTM Tactical posted an ad on the hide and I got the last one he had. A few days later and a quick transfer it was finally mine! I took it over to PCR and the magic started to happen.
For those of you that don't know Keith & Brad are a Son & Father outfit and I couldn't ask for a better team to have working on my rifle. Th best part is they are genuinely welcoming guys and I am lucky enough to live near them. Since the first day of the build they have let me know I am invited to go to the shop anytime I desire (during hours of courses) and check out my build, in fact they encouraged me to be as involved as I could be. I've actually sat like a fly on the wall just watching in awe as they work just admiring how much care they put in each rifle. As the build progresses and I become a weekly fixture I have been allowed to watch other rifles get worked on. Yesterday I spent over two hours as Brad worked on my rifle then walked me step by step on another rifle as he prepped and bedded the action. Its really nice to be welcomed in a shop and just take in lots of great info. As Brad taught customers came and went always getting the much deserved attention then it was back to work on rifles and custom bolt knobs. I can't wait to take this rifle out shooting when it is done. If you are in the Phoenix you would be nutty not to check out this shop.
Here are the specs on my build:
Day One: Just got my parts down to PCR. Already feeling excited!
Day 7 Action and Barrel went together perfectly, I just love watching the progress of this build knowing it will be mine.
Day 7 and we start see what it will look like. Note the small node, still need to trim barrel back about 3".
Got a lesson on bedding while I was there as well, Brad makes it look easy.
Day 13 Bottom Metal inletted and looking great, love that Surgeon mag release
Day 13 Fitting ejection port looking perfect
Day 13 is and this is what we end up with
