I have been drooling of Surgeon Rifles ever since I read about them back in 2007 if memory serves. I was a VERY broke college student at the time but had it in my mind that someday I would own one of their rifles. Fast forward a few years, I finally have the money and there are no actions to be found. I could buy one off Surgeon's Site but it's not the exact way I wanted. Well after trolling snipers hide and finding Phoenix Custom Rifles I called up Keith & Brad and they invited me over to the shop. Keith and I discussed the options and he let me know if I wanted a Surgeon all I had to do was find one.....easier said that done.

As luck had it Mark over at OTM Tactical posted an ad on the hide and I got the last one he had. A few days later and a quick transfer it was finally mine! I took it over to PCR and the magic started to happen.

For those of you that don't know Keith & Brad are a Son & Father outfit and I couldn't ask for a better team to have working on my rifle. Th best part is they are genuinely welcoming guys and I am lucky enough to live near them. Since the first day of the build they have let me know I am invited to go to the shop anytime I desire (during hours of courses) and check out my build, in fact they encouraged me to be as involved as I could be. I've actually sat like a fly on the wall just watching in awe as they work just admiring how much care they put in each rifle. As the build progresses and I become a weekly fixture I have been allowed to watch other rifles get worked on. Yesterday I spent over two hours as Brad worked on my rifle then walked me step by step on another rifle as he prepped and bedded the action. Its really nice to be welcomed in a shop and just take in lots of great info. As Brad taught customers came and went always getting the much deserved attention then it was back to work on rifles and custom bolt knobs. I can't wait to take this rifle out shooting when it is done. If you are in the Phoenix you would be nutty not to check out this shop.

Here are the specs on my build:
  • Surgeon 591 Short Action
  • Surgeon Bottom Meteal
  • McMillan A5 Blank Stock
  • Timney Calvin Elite
  • Bartlein Barrel

Looks great....what caliber?

I just had PCR put a muzzle brake on my Tikka. I had some questions and both Brad and Keith took the time to answer them. Turn around was 1 week exactly and it looks awesome. I didn't get the chance to meet Keith but I shot the shit with Brad for a while when I picked up my rifle and he let me fondle a Bighorn action they had. When I get a Bighorn of my own it will be going to them for sure.

After a lot of thought I went with .308, I want to shoot a lot and if components get scarce I can always trade for rounds. Additionally I can't justify new barrels as often w the faster flatter rounds. This will be a great 800 yard nail driver that can be fed off the shelf or handloads.

Went into paint today, getting close!

When we started to discuss how to paint the rifle I let them know the colors I wanted and I told them to do something that they wanted to make. Brad told me Keith was the best at camp patterns and he was not lying, this pattern is really going to confuse the coyotes our here.......yes I will take a coyote with a .308 round.

Update: getting pictures from Brad over at PCR he is using a set of random stencils they put together. Like I have to tell you PCR has an eye for the finished product. Keith & Brad have really put together something special for me. I just told them I wanted to use desert tones and this is what they came up with.

Ranch I think that's totally normal. I've replaced a few keyboards due to drool just lurking the hide the past few years. I'm just happy it's finally my turn. You won't be disappointed w PCR.

Best part is being local you are invited to stop in and become very involved.

At the beginning of this year, I had PCR blue print my rem 700 and put on a bartlien and cerakote and bolt knob mod.

All I can say is... Fantastic work!!!

No one will be disappointed by ANY work they need done from these two.

PCR FTW!

How much did they charge you for the cerakote work, Im getting and chassis and Vortex PST once I get the funds aside, but chassis is gonna be bare, and I stripped the duracoat of my rifle this summer got a little tired of my camo patter lol. But monday Im gonna stop buy and hope they can put on a muzzle brake before the 18 for AZLRPS monthly match..
