Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

As seen in a previous post by PCR. PCR did the Cerakote, install PGW embedded front rail, install Badger M5 bottom metal, and gave it new bedding. Excellent workmanship and top notch service! Thanks Brad and Keith!

Gonna send some more rifles your way soon. My groups improved in half after you had my rifle. And it looks better so double whammy.

Thanks,

Zach

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Heres a 338RUM we're finishing up right now. 30" tube with APA Brake. Whole rifle is getting a two color Cerakote job in a couple weeks.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Here's a couple they built for us. Inleted and bedded the stocks, and put extra work in getting the Atlasworx DBMs going. Also had the bolt knobs done. Pay no attention to the finish on my rifle, they had to remove a bit of tan Krylon just to get the thing in the stock.

I apologize for the poor lighting. Its bright out here in the summer!

It's great to have a competent gunsmith shop within driving distance, that gets work done quickly.

+1 for Phoenix Custom Rifles!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

How is it I've never heard of you guys!?! I found the link to this thread and I've been scrolling through it looking at your work - wow. I SERIOUSLY like the 3 color 338 Edge. Beautiful rifle.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Here's one just finished up.
We're using a lot of Brux and Rock barrels. Every thing is shooting very well.
We've got our new lathe set up and have quickened rifle build times a little.
Most of our wait time right now is due to waiting on stocks or special order barrels.
We're going to spend some money on special size barrels and flat-top stocks to keep them in stock. Standard contour barrels we can get pretty quick, or already have in stock.

Turn around time right now on Bedding jobs and muzzle threadings is 1-2 weeks. Cerakote is 2 weeks.
Rifle builds that have all the parts are quick right now. Like 1-2 months quick!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Announcing a price decrease!

We've reduced our price of truing Remington receivers to $125. The stipulation is that you must be having a match grade barrel chambered/installed on it by us at the same time.

This makes the total for truing and barreling Remington 700s $400 even.

If the action has been previously trued, the price for barreling is $275.

Barreling includes cutting the threads and counterbore, chambering/headspacing, crowning, barrel spinning and barrel labeling.

All Remingtons must be trued or we will not rebarrel them. This new price is to encourage that, and to closer reflect one of our competitors prices.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Savages and FNs we dont see a benefit to true. We guarantee half MOA or better without the truing of those actions(Savage, FN, Winchester)

At the time we are only rebarreling Remingtons, Winchesters, FNs, Savages, Mausers, and of course all the aftermarket actions(Badger, Surgeon, Stiller, Defiance, Mcmillan, etc.)

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Keith, I've been in talks with brad. I have my Winchester model 70 coming yall way for a full build. Im excited to have the Winchester built.
One question. What are the differences of the Remington and Winchester actions that makes the Winchester not need trueing?

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Here is a very nice 260Rem that was just finished up.
I can not stress enough how much nicer aftermarket actions are than Remingtons. Surgeon, Defiance, BadgerM2008, and Stiller are what we use most.
Surgeon 591s are a dream to barrel. Surgeon RSR actions do not have an integral rail and lug but are great actions and should be strongly considered if you don't already have an action.

Anyways, here's the 260...
Built on a Surgeon action using a Rock 5R 8Twist SS barrel. Mcmillan A5 stock, Shilen trigger, and a Badger M5 bottom metal.

Our wait time on full rifle builds is about 2.5 months right now.

Some guys wait a little longer if waiting on a stock or special barrel.

Guys that have all their parts minus maybe a recoil lug or trigger, and not requiring a special contour barrel, we can have done in 2 months.

M40, M24, #7, Remington Varminter, Remington Sendero, and #5s we can get pretty readily.
Its the very small contours and the Palma contours we have to order and actually wait months for.

Mcmillan stocks are about a 3 month wait right now for the popular ones. I have a feeling the 50cal stocks and maybe EDGE stocks are a little longer.

I do not suggest ever using an EDGE stock by the way. The very slight weight savings is not worth the strength you give up(in my opinion). Especially on magnum cartridges. There are better ways to save weight.

And on the flip side of that, I don't ever suggest a "Sniper fill" stock. They aren't any stronger to my knowledge, just heavier. If you want a heavier gun leave some more barrel on it.

Mcmillan standard fill is the way to go.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Here's my first attempt at a digital camo job on a stock.
I learned a lot from doing it. Next time I will be much better at it.
We're now offering this service. Price depends on the stock and requested job/numbers of colors.

Colors here are: Tan base cost with FDE pattern

According to the McMillan web site they say the edge stock is stronger............Just wondering if you have had a different experience.

THE McMILLAN EDGE ULTRALIGHT. A PHYSICS LESSON IN REDUCING WEIGHT WHILE INCREASING STRENGTH.
Our new EDGE technology uses 100% graphite plus high tech resins borrowed from the aerospace industry to produce a stock that is inherently lighter and stiffer than either fiberglass or wood.
The finished stock will weigh in at 22-24 ounces,

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Might be "stiffer" but they crack easier from what I've seen.
I was told not to use them with big Magnums because of cracking. And that they should always be bedded for added strength.

They are not as strong as standard fill from what I have seen. Maybe more rigid, but not stronger.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

FN bolt and Savage bolt before Cerakote
When we screw the knob on tight, it still requires a decent amount of hand sanding to blend it this well.
photo-399.jpg

photo-400.jpg

All knob installs other than Remingtons get screwed + epoxied. So it will not unscrew.
After Cerakote these installs will look SWEET.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

I know this is an older thread but I was linked to it by the Phoenix Custom site.

I was wondering who makes the stock on the 7mm Remington Magnum built by Brad John? Also, what would be the price on having one fitted and bedded on Cooper 52 action and bottom metal?

Sorry for the late reply. Youre best off calling us for questions.
The stock on the rifle is a Mcmillan HTG. Great stocks. Over half the rifles we work on use Mcmillan HTG or A5 stocks. Those are our two favorite stocks.

Bedding is $200. Im not sure we can bed a Cooper52. I havent done one and would want to look at one first. If youre still interested give us a call.

Thank you very much everyone!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

We drain our 80 gal tank about once every six months and see about 1-2 cups of water. My big seperator on the wall gets drained at the same time and I bet it doesn't get a mouthfull of water. When we blast or spray color we have a dedicated hose and use a glass globe seperator with a blue paper towel in it for a final filter and even turned up we show no trace of contaminates. I do like the looks of that high tech filter system. You can't be too clean. Keep up the good work.

Shawn

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Ya we only get a couple ounces I guess at most when we drain at the end of the day, but its still there. It hasn't been a problem for us, but I believe it would be if we didn't fight it. We had a pretty humid summer this year

Thank you sir!

Still waiting for the new action screws. I'll have to coat them before I put it back togather.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

New here to the site, and interested in re-building my mostly stock Remington 700 in .300RUM.

I know this is a tactical site, and most of your rifle builds are tatical rifles, but wondering if you build hunting rifles?

It shoots a measly 1.25 MOA right now, with handloads, factory ammo is about 1.5+ MOA. I have only used it on two hunts for that reason. It is a hard-hitting round, but accuracy is not it's strong suit right now. I am looking to remedy that with Phoenix Custom Rifle's help. I am hoping to keep the action/bolt, and that is about it.

I am happy to see a local company producing high quality work and in a reasonable timeframe. My last build (.25-06 Ack Imp on a Rem 700 action-similar build to what I want again) took about 6 months to get back, but accuracy was worth the wait. Now, if I could get drawn for antelope, I would be a happy man. I built that rifle 10 years ago in anticipation of that hunt...which I am still waiting for.

Lance,

Give us a call and we'll have you come in and talk about your build.
