Hello all, I've been checking out all the great picture threads such as "Show us your 20 incher", etc. I see lots of USO scopes in these threads but in particular I'm hoping people can show comparison photos of the SN3 1.8-10x on rifles in both the 37 and 44mm versions. I'm trying to get a feel for the difference in size between the two objectives on this scope. Thanks in advance!

Thanks MWDG3, that's a picture I had not seen before. Still, I'm hoping to see them on actual rifles. I have a hard time seeing how "normal" vs "oversized" they look when not mounted on something.

37 and 44 will both look normal on most rifles.

My 58mm can look a little silly from time to time, especially with the sunshade.
I would go with the 44mm on a 10 power. I have a SN3s and the limiting factor is the eyebox, not the objective, so it sits a little high over the bore. Its just aesthetics, as the centerline is the same, but a 44 will look a little better.

YN Dotte, thanks a bunch for the link. The model I ordered, the 1.8-10x44 seems to be the least common model they make (at least as far as these pictures are concerned). IN fact I don't think I saw one. Haha

Lol I gotta say I don't see very many of them. I think alot of people go for the higher magnifications. I really like the 1.8-10 models, IMO they are perfect for a SPR builds or as hunting scopes.

Hey Jedi, I think the reason you don't see many of the 44's is for about the same weight you can go up to the next power range. The weight savings is really with the 37mm. Look at the thickness of the objective housings on the 37mm vs the 44mm in the side by side pic, huge difference. That's why the one I just ordered to replace my 44mm is a 37mm. It'll be at least a 1/4 pound lighter on the front end, about 10mm narrower OD and about 10mm shorter.

Your reasoning makes perfect sense NoExpert, but the wider objective lenses always appeal to me for low-light shooting (not that I have done much of that at this point but who knows down the road. Hehe

I thought the same thing with the light gathering when I bought my first scope, also the larger exit pupil. Then I tried a friend's 1.8-10X37 in low light and saw there wasn't much difference, at least not enough to justify me carrying the extra size and weight around.
The one on the EBR setup is the 1.8-10X44 I sold.

NoExpert, Ive been looking at the 1.8-10 as well. Since you have on hand experience and are getting another one... which elevation and windage options are you going for this time around? and other options if you feel like elaborating.

I had the EREK and US#3 M40 with windage stop on the last one, both MIL. The new one will also have the EREK knob but I'm getting the US#1 with cover and US#1 M40 windage knobs. I opted for the ERGO adjustment instead of T-PAL. It's more forgiving on the settings (you can set it to 200 yards and it'll work out to about 500 yards) and for me it's faster (just turn to the setting, don't need to always start at infinity). The 1.8-10X is not much more of a reach than T-PAL, I think 3 or 4 inches. It's also one less knob on the turret block making it easier to get my fat fingers on the windage knob.
The last scope weighed 2.25 pounds with sunshade/ARD and USO lens caps installed. I'll be weighing this one when I get it to see how much lighter it is.

Thanks for the added info NoExpert! Even though Minuteman was the one who asked it I enjoyed the answers as well. I ordered the JNG MIL on mine. I haven't seen it in person but of all the ones they offered it looked the best to me, at least by diagram. You're probably right about the clutter but my mind just can't wrap itself around the GAP type reticles. The thick posts have to be the same length for me. Haha
You make a good point about red not ruining night vision. I went with green because I read that it is more visible to people like myself, with a color deficiency (I learned that colorblind is non-PC
).

1.8-10x44 w/JNG MIL reticle. Perfect size and power range IMO. Good for closer shots at low power thanks to the reticle ring and 10x lets you get out there. I ordered a 3.2-17 for this but it was too big and moved it over to my bolt .308.

falar, while on the 1.8x you can pick up your sight picture pretty quick? compaired to a red dot how much more difficult is it?

Thanks for the pic Falar. I'll be putting it on a bolt gun, but not a huge bolt gun...an XCR compact tactical, 20" barrel. I was afraid the 3-17x's would "overpower" the rifle. Yours looks just about perfect for it.

Since it is not even close to true 1x it is not nearly as fast as a red dot. 25-50yds out though I would say it is pretty fast, faster than an ACOG anyway.
