85-90 is my normal freeway speed. 100 isnt uncommon. Ive gone passed plenty of cops without them coming after me. And if it was so dangerous why should the cop come flying after me. They aren't any kind of pro drivers. Doung 100 in todays cars is safer then doing 60 in cars from 10 years ago in every way

I feel my father-in-law from my first marriage was wrongly convicted. But he kept his mouth shut and lived. His name was on some bad S&L loans back in the 80's. The judge said he would be lenient if he named names. But it was the Syndicate. He did not name names and serve 4 and 6 years concurrently and got out in 2.5 years for good behavior. It was the Big Springs II unit. A country club when he went in but housing violent gang members when he got out, just in time.
And he would be the first one to comply with a cop when pulled over. Because any particular cop would have nothing to do with his conviction before. Keep your mouth shut and find the easiest solution out of this.
And because of that, he lived just fine until he died of natural causes (myocardial infarction.)
He just passed the cop doing a 100 mph, at that point it’s reckless driving. It‘s clear he’s looking for trouble and he found it. At those speeds he’s not going to get politeness as he was a danger to the public, then he wants to argue and be defiant. Then there is resisting arrest and assaulting a cop.
Unfortunate, he was locked up for 16 years wrongfully, but that doesn’t give him a pass to do whatever because he’s bitter.
On the racetrack, you are correct. On the interstate where this guy was stopped with all the variables of slower moving traffic ahead and cars changing lanes - it’s reckless too fast.
The places I have driven, it is criminal and you can go to jail. And that is a lot of places

Can you name me one single case where a suspect, citizen, criminal, or whatever you want to tag the individual as, went physical on a cop trying to make an arrest at the scene, and it went in their favor, and the cop simply left, and forgot the whole thing?
It NEVER happens, and it never will. Law enforcement arrests are not bar fights. There will be only one winner... The cop. Everytime, all the time. Just as in this case. I'll let you in on something most everyone else on this planet automatically knows.
If you feel you have been wronged by law enforcement, the place to do your fighting is in the courtroom with an attorney, not in the street. There have been several court cases that have gone against the police.
By getting physical with the cop, all your doing is getting more sore and tired..... Or worse DEAD. And at the same time giving them a better case against you in court...... Which is exactly where you're going to end up anyway.

Only if they're lucky. Speed limits are there for a reason. Because most people understand if everyone and their brother drove 100 MPH everytime they felt like it, traffic fatalities would go through the roof.
Most drivers today have barely enough skill or common sense behind the wheel to drive at posted speeds. Allow them to drive at 100 MPH and it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Not to mention most individuals don't maintain their vehicles properly enough to safely push them that fast. Bald tires, bad shocks, etc., all contribute to raising the bar for serious accidents to happen.
If you look at the European Autobahn, along with their driving in general, they have strict maintenance protocol and inspections for all vehicles that must be followed to the letter.
Anything found in need of repair is automatically flagged. And it must be corrected and signed off on by a competent mechanic before a valid sticker is issued. That's why they allow for higher posted speeds.
In this country people will drive 5 or 10 MPH over on a regular basis. Cops know this and hand out tickets. Which amount to a fine, along with a few points against your license. Basically a slap on the wrist, telling you to slow down and be more careful.
But in most states anything over 15 to 20 MPH above the posted limit is treated as a criminal offense. Because anyone driving that fast is basically saying fuck you to the law, along with its enforcement. So you'll be arrested, and your vehicle will be towed and impounded.
This isn't done because cops want to be pricks. It's done to remove idiots from the road, who are a danger to themselves, and those around them. The punishment is more severe, because the offense is greater, and more importantly deliberate.

Were there any people or property harmed? NO! It's a compliance, obey your master, we'll make an example out of you, obedience, bullshit regulation law or whatever.

These types of people can't help themselves by simply behaving, and doing what they are told to do, for the few minutes they have to do it. They can't resist their urge to resist, run, and or fight it out on the street where they're guaranteed to not only lose, but make matters worse for themselves.
How many times do we see these stupid idiots running from cops? Resisting cops? Even when there is one of them against 5 or 6 cops. They do it all the time. They're simply stupid idiots, who cannot control themselves for their own good.
Same thing with car chases. These morons know they're going to get caught. But they can't resist running, and in the process endanger themselves, and everyone around them. Again, they're fucking idiots, who feel they must resist any and all authority. Regardless of how dangerous or futile it is guaranteed to become.
So yes, smart people will comply, and do what the cop tells them to do. Not because they're weak or afraid. But because they're smart enough to understand they're temporarily in a no win situation. And behaving themselves by doing exactly what the cop tells them is in their best long term interest.
And as I mentioned before, they're intelligent enough to know to do their fighting in a courtroom with an attorney. Not like an idiot in the street with their fists....

Why not make any over the posted limit an arrestable offense? If road engineers have used a formula to determine the safe speed on a road then anyone going over that is endangering others.

Because there are varying degrees of violation. So there are varying degrees of punishment to match. As I said, people routinely drive 5 or 10 over. It's easy to do when you are preoccupied, or late to work. Especially today with modern, powerful, smooth driving vehicles.
By giving them a simple ticket, it makes them think more about their driving. And as a result, they'll be more compliant. But when someone blatantly says, "fuck you, I'll drive as fast as I damn well please", and goes 100+ MPH, the punishment is far more harsh. As it should be.
This also carries over to more serious types of crimes, like bank robbery. Get caught just passing a note to the teller saying, "give me the money", will get you far less time, than if you come in with guns out yelling, "Hit the deck, this is a robbery!" and jump over the counter.
Do that, and you have just committed an armed takeover, which is far more serious. That will add many more years to your sentence. Going furthur by taking any hostages, or else binding and / or gagging people, or locking customers or employees in the vault, and you've just committed armed kidnapping.
Which is also a Federal offense..... With still more years added to your time. It all equates to more crime equals more time.... Again, as it should.

Did the cop escalate the situation? Yes but regardless the dead guy solely made his decision and paid the price.
There are even speed limits on racetracks. Both NASCAR, as well as Formula 1 have pit road speed limits that are strictly enforced for the safety of the other cars, and pit crew members on pit lane.
If you violate them, you are punished accordingly, depending on how much you are in violation. A small amount might get you a 5 second penalty added to your time. A higher degree of pit road speeding could net you a drive through penalty, which is far more costly.
And these speed limits work. Before them there were many pit crew members killed or injured by speeding, out of control race cars coming in, and leaving the pits. Today it is very rare.

So I don’t have any sympathy for some idiot who thinks he’s special and can break laws meant for safety.
Going a few miles over the speed limit doesn’t hurt my feelings. I’ve also been guilty of that and when I’m pulled over, I am polite and professional. My usual greeting to the cop is, “I guess I was going to fast.”
Then, sometimes, I’m let off with a warning. On the other hand, going 100 mph is the height of being an asshole.
I also know what it’s like to be the victim of a false accusation and sympathize with someone who has been falsely convicted.
With that said, it’s a travesty that the driver spent 16 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit but that didn’t give him the right to go that fast and be an asshole.

There's already varying penalties for excess speed. Most states already have a point system and monetary system for punishment. Those carry over to your insurance premium. They have absolutely no reason to make it arrestable offense if no one has been hurt or property damage.

No, of course not. If the body of a race car isn't constructed properly, or made from non compliant materials, it won't be allowed on the track. Tires are also regulated for size, and construction. Again for drivers safety, along with fairness of competition.
Horsepower is regulated on the NASCAR superspeedways for safety as well. It's why they went to restrictor plates to keep the speed under 200 MPH. Along with roof flaps and large rear spoilers to keep the cars from flying into the stands. Like Allison's almost did back in 1987.
It's also why the NHRA went to 1,000 foot racing for the Nitro burning cars. Again to regulate speed for safety, after Scott Kalitta was killed.
You can't race on any tire you damn well please. Because you are a danger to yourself and other drivers. Tires are somewhat regulated on the street, as well as the racetrack.
In states that see hazardous driving conditions like snow and ice, they can mandate chains, or you cannot proceed until you install them. No matter if it's on the street or the racetrack, these regulations are in place to protect the people involved.
Many more are injured in the bathtub. WTF makes this an arrestable offense?
