I recently got a pof 415. Haven't shot it yet. I like the rifle. I have been reading on the net. There are so many threads that say that lwrc is better. I have a guy willing to trade a lwrc m6a2 with spiral fluted barrel and enhanced trigger. So what's the real scoop from people that have shot or fired both. It will be a range rifle and will never see over 10,000 rounds. No hard use and accuracy is most important to me.

Shoot it first but I think you did good. If it shoots good and is accurate I would keep it. There is a member in here named KillShot that will chime in and give you more info.

This has been discussed at length in the many threads on this forum but, you're gonna find lovers and haters of both.

The POF rifles don't utilize any springs in the piston system, thereby eliminating a possible point of failure. On the other hand, the LWRC does use springs. LWRC considers 1.25moa to be acceptable accuracy whereas POF rifles as easily capable of 3/4 moa or better, given the shooter does their part.

The p415 is on my short list unless I decide to pick up a .308 POF 12" SBR upper. If I were you, there's no way in hell that I'd trade my POF for an LWRC but with that being said...you'll find people who will say the same about their LWRC.

If I'm reading that correctly, he's willing to trade his LWRC for your POF? That alone should tell you that you made the right decision and you really shouldn't trade.

I lean toward the LWRCI but they are both fine weapons.. If accuracy is your main concern a DI gun would serve you better something like a noveske or JP Rifles.. Just keep what you have and shoot it!!

Both are great guns and both have many followers that get good results. For me I owned a POF, sold it, but will definitely own another in the not so distant future. The POF is a great rifle!

KillShot hit the nail on the head to me, If this guy has this LWRC with all those upgrades and he still wants to trade for your POF I would say it does not perform as good as he had hoped or he would keep it. Ultimately it comes down to personal choice, they are both good systems but if it were me I would keep the POF. I will not part with mine.

Ford vs Chevy, take your pic. Each company makes a great rifle, and once in a while you'll get a stinker. Honestly the differences are anecdotal at best, both ways, and in the end just get the gun you like more.

actually even if you are choosing between Ford and Chevy, it will come down to looks (or at least it's what you think looks the best). This is why I would choose the LWRC, all LWRC's are dam nice looking rifles.

I have three LWRCs in 6.8 spc and a LWRC REPR. I have drunk the LWRC Koolaid and like them. I have not shot or used a POF but a friend that have both says he likes his LWRC 556 better. If I was approaching this from an outsider standpoint without the info provided from biased users like myself - I would check used prices and availability of both brands. Are used rifles selling for near what new ones do? This to me is an indication that the rifles have a good reputation for dependability and accuracy. If a lot of used ones are on the market then WTF. If discontinued models are on the market then why. Does this approach make any sense? Maybe just as much sense as asking me if I like LWRC or POF.

How does the lwrc enhanced compare to the pof trigger. Pof seems to come with custom features you have to add to lwrc.

I would replace either with Gissele. I am not one to drink the juice, but life is too short to use crappy triggers. I have 5 Gissele's and 2 Jewell's because only thing really makes a gun awesome are 2 things, the trigger and the barrel.

I need to add to my original post.
When I picked up my LWRC it had a lot of slop between the upper and lower, accuwedged it and it is good to go now. The slop was enough that when i mounted my rather heavy Swarovski 6x scope the rifle felt like it had a hinge in the middle. I also added a SD3G trigger.
It is reliable and battle accurate and looks great.

I vote POF, however, go shoot both. It is really just a matter of preference. Both are good rifles with good companies behind them. If you search the net you will find people having issues with both . . . . however, detractors tend to make more noise than satisfied customers.

I have both. Customer service and support is much better with LWRC. POF had some issues for a while, but seemed to have taken care of their quality control. Do a search on Hogan firearms and POF lawsuit. Having said that, I personally like POF's piston design better. Each will have it's positives and negatives.

If you POF shoots sub-moa and is reliable, why worry about it. The grass isn't always greener...

I shot the pof yesterday. Smoothest shooting ar I've ever shot. Not sure if its the break or the piston but it doesn't move. Was getting about 1 inch groups at 50 yards with aimpoint 2 moa dot.

I've heard good things about POF stuff for years, they can't all be wrong. If you own it already, and like the way it shoots then I'd keep it. I'm a huge fan of LWRC stuff, but I am able to recognize that PWS and POF/Hogan rifles are excellent machines. Any of those three should treat you well.

..... unless I decide to pick up a .308 POF 12" SBR upper. .

Please do, and then do a thread on it. I would LOVE to hear how a heavy shorty performs. I fired a 12 inch REPR at the Big Bang Shoot during SHOT before last and it was SWEET. Had a T1 on it, was easy to bang a 50 and 100 yard plate. I've wanted one ever since, but I'd really like to hear how they do past 100. Go for it! :)

Really? The guy has not even shot the rifle yet and he is asking if he should trade it? Don't you think he may want to shoot both first so he can make an educated decision or is what ever you say good enough?

I understand but I do not think shooting it will prove anything.

Both piston guns. Both have fan bois. Both are new guns.... He has a chance to get a cool looking gun for an ugly one.

Just having been to the NRA Convention; I would put my money on the POF. Both companies had small presences at the show, which is fine by me, but, while I think the LWRC's "Look" better and have all the latest ambi features, the guys that were manning their space at the show were unmodivated and seem disinterested to be there. I walked up to look at the LWRC's and not one said "Hi", or offered to answer questions, or show me why I should like or want one of their ar's. Not until I tried again on another visit were I engaged one of them did I received a simple run through of their features. I was not looking to be sold one; but wanted to like the LWRC's inspite of the disinterest diplayed by their personnel. Sitting on your butt, and not engaging the customer traffic at the show left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The POF guys were at least interested in talking about their rifles. I want my ar's to be reliable, accurate, and well built first, and with CS to back it up.

I have had decent Customer Service from LWRC, nothing great, just decent.

LWRC also never answered any of my messages about why their system mash return springs, and damage spring cups so easily when running their rifles suppressed. Other than running suppressed, my LWRC rifle has been flawless. Lucky for me, I reload and know my gun is just over gassed, so I just run a slightly milder load. I do lose about 100FPS from my normal load though. I also keep extra return springs on hand, had to pay for them though.

Regardless, I don't need booth babes, customer service or marketing guys to sell my a rifle. I can make my own decision based on my own research.

Disinterested but at least they where not abusive to customers... (inside joke)

POF's big selling point is pistons with their own proprietary designs, LWRC's selling point is mil-spec weapon systems with an piston adaptation (similar, but not the same thing). Both are piston rifles, so neither are really mil-spec in that aspect. That being said, when POF's run, they run well; when they don't, it's a nightmare, primarily because of the combination of the piston system along with their own proprietary changes and parts (or lack of them). LWRC's also have bad apples, but their issues are much more straightforward due to the design departing less from the original spec. That isn't to say they're better, it just is what it is.

I prefer DI rifles myself (Noveske fan).

Originally I wanted a POF in some flavor, then after awhile I became pretty disgusted with POF's hand guard. When I finally decided to buy an AR rifle I then decided on the 7.62x51 caliber only because I got a smokin' deal on my LWRC REPR. I have had a few teething problems on my REPR but its not enough to make me want to get rid of my rifle......yet. That being said I have heard a lot of good things and some negative about the POF 308. If I would have got the same deal on a POF 308 before I acquired my REPR I would have bought that. So to me at the time the REPR was the rifle I was interested in and got the deal on. I know that was just a bunch of rambling but take it as one more "review".

I have a POF 308 that won't cycle reliably. It's accurate, and I wanna love it but....... Not trying to hijack the thread but was kinda wonderin if anyone has experience dealing with and successfully fixing reliability issues in this particular platform?

+1 for KillShot call POF. But if you want to try it yourself, first make sure your gas selector is in the correct position. Also open the receiver and look at the buffer area see if there are any ware marks from the bolt. Check your extractor spring. If none of this is a problem, take a bore brush and put on a drill and clean the chamber area good ( at low speed and not for very long) sometimes the barrel treatment they use makes the chamber really tight this can help smooth it out a little.

I'll try the bore brush. The rifle has less than 200 rounds thru it. What should I look for regarding the extractor spring? I did look at it before and found a bunch of brass shavings. Also I noticed that the newer rifles are using a different buffer weight and spring. Is that something I should look into. I have emailed POF and they said to make sure I'm cleaning the rifle correctly etc. I am. Also I was using the factory mag and having these issues.
