I bought a rifle last year, some may be familiar with it, the how axiom in 22-250 with 6x24x56 nikko sterling scope. got it on my range and I just am not impressed with it. 1st of all after researching this site for some time before becoming a member ( 1st post) I now am interested in something with mil-dot but most importantly I wish to be able to see clearer. Now thinking this thing would blow my 4x12x40 ontop of my 7m rem mag away, however this isn't near the case. I don't know the technicalities to be able to know why it isn't performing like I would think other than it was an inexpensive purchase? The rings need to be loosened scope slightly realigned on its axis and tightened down again which I plan on doing very soon. I love the round and so far for what I have in it I guess I can't complain I have 250 yds to shoot at in my back yard with several thousands of timber behind that and I can barely make out my 10" target, well not to the point I would think I could. Then the definition of cross-hair to x/y lines on my target just are too unclear, I would surely be hard pressed to stretch it out another 100-150yds which is why i bought that power of scope.

Am I just asking too much from it? Is it really a piece of junk? Before answering please tell me why and what I need to look for next. I really want this post to grow to my other questions about building a rifle this year but before I do I just need to clear up some things. I've got some pics I can load if anyone would like to take the time to help.

Looks like a great forum,
Rob

Re: Point me in the right direction...

The very simple explanation is that Nikko Sterling is a cheap- made to look cool with all the bells and whistles- optic that really doesn't work. It's made Tacticool for the "those that don't do their homework" market.

Throw that thing in the garbage can and go buy something useable.

Re: Point me in the right direction...

OP, inexpensive scopes don't necessary have to suck, no offense but yours just happens to be one of the sucky ones. For the same price or less you paid for the nikko, you could have gone and still could go with either a standard super sniper or Bushnell 10X. If you still have time to send it back do so just to at least get your money back.

Quick question though. What are your shooting intentions? Are you target shooting, looking at getting into competitions, hunting ect?

Just for an inexpensive (mildot) scope but still proven take a look at the standard super snipers 10x, 16x, the Bushnell elite 10x and the weaver super slam tactical 3-10x. All are $300 or less and much better in all areas than what you have currently.

If you can't get your money back and if the scope is still under warranty send it back to the company to get fixed then sell it on ebay.

i'm currently only target shooting and hunting, although if I can get to a level of competition other than with my relatives through our everyother month get togethers then that would be awesome too. I am really interested in a mil-dot scope to try and get to where I can work on accurate shot placement out to 400 with this rifle and build a rifle by next year that will do 600+
