I have two socom 16s one GI tiger striped wood stocked the other synthetic..they both operate very well with an occasional feeding and ejection hiccup every so often. I shoot both of them in 3 gun and run-n-gun matches. As a result they can get pretty hot to the touch because of the number of rounds fired in a realatively short period of time. Both are zeroed at 50yds with milsurp ammo, currently South African and generate 1.5 - 2 inches at that distance..and 4-5 at 100yds....iron sights...national match fronts and GI rears.
At 40-50 rounds..the point of impact starts to shift. The targets engaged are usually clays at 50-60 yds...which is not a problem. Once the rifles are warmed up, point of impact shifts toward 2'o clock and the clays need to be basketball before I can hit them with a center hold. I also have a mini-G in .308(16" garand) that exhibits the same thing.
Is this typical of m14s or garands any barrel length and how do I go about dealing with this impact changing.
