Can you over polish your brass? I forgot mine last night and they tumbled for a good 12hr. They only needed 1hr. They sure are pretty now!! It seems to me that i read a post sometime back that a fella said polishing removes material from the case. Meaning that it wears the brass down to much. Any truth in this? Lee

Re: Polishing brass??

Corn cob grit or walnut hulls you're good to go. Abrasive media you might want to set you a timer on it.

I went to either Lowe's or Home Depot and bought a lamp timer. It's like a power strip with a twist dial to set it between 1 and 12 hours.

I have personally tumbled brass for 24 hours once (older Thumbler's Tumbler) when I had an emergency. It did just fine. I'm using corn cob grit and Dillon polish liquid.

Re: Polishing brass??

I don't see how a corn cob is gonna remove any of my case. I typically turn my tumbler on before I go to bed and let it polish overnight. Sometimes it runs for 12+ hrs. I've done this for YEARS with no problem. I like pretty.

Re: Polishing brass??

Should be fine unless you had something very abrasive in the media.
Corncob or walnut will not change the case dimensionally in that period of time. Maybe 12 days would have some effect

Kinda what i thought! The media i use is from Sinclair's and it does wonders to brass. I used some media from Lyman one time that was red. That shit was a nightmare. It turned everything red. Don't ever use it, you will regret it for sure. Thanks as always fellas!! Lee

I have some of the same Lyman shit. I wasn't happy to find the insides of the brass covered in red either. It seems like it never comes out either. Now, wether it causes any burn rate differences or accuracy problems I have no idea. But it sure pissed me off seeing in there.
