Poll: I'm done with visiting large US cities - How about the rest of you?

I'm a traveler, and I'm never content sitting still. I've visited cities all over the world, checking off one historic city after another, and the same goes with our American cities. I would go out of my way just to drive through downtown on a time pressed road trip, just to see what it looks like. Some I really enjoyed visiting because of their architecture, vibrance, or history (Chicago, Miami and Boston all come to mind in this, respectively), others I saw, checked them off the list, didn't lose anything and have no need to go back (Memphis, San Fran and New Orleans for these). But, regardless what I thought of them, I tried to at least take time to dip my toes into their culture, enjoy some good food and shopping, just play the tourist, drop some money and go on my way. I've never had a bad experience in any of them, no parking tickets, never mugged despite many requiring me to leave the gun at home or at least in the car, but even with Memphis, a real third world shit hole, I didn't leave wishing I had never come there in the first place.

To my point though, I'm not doing this shit any more. Cities have finally hit PNG status with me, and instead of making a point of visiting, I'm now going to make a point of hitting the beltway just to never enter their limits. I'm washing my hands of them, opting to avoid whenever possible, and when not (work related), I'm going to make a point to not give them a penny of business that I can't avoid. They've burned their bridge, no more tolerance from me of their traffic/crime/prices/stench.

Some city folk may think I'm being extreme, or that I'm pointing the finger at the wrong place, punishing the business owners and employees for lost business due to decisions make by a select few and the politicians. Well, I point the finger at every one of their citizens, they voted their shit into office, they can fuck off and stew in it for all I care.



P.S.: I hope the feeling is mutual and they stay the fuck out of my state and small towns too. Seriously, we don't want their kind around, and in that I know for a fact I'm far from alone.

Yeah, I've never been a city person. I'm more of my closest neighbor being 5 miles down the road. My wife is more of neighbors being 2 miles down the road. I grew up in New Jersey, but a small town of 3k people. I dont go to the cities now, mostly because I hate going out period unless its hunting, hiking or shooting. But to willingly go there or live there...nope.

I moved outside a small town 45 years ago and would be perfectly happy to never visit a large city ever again. I guess the only time I lived in a city was Brooklyn from 1948 - 1953. I was a child and really don't remember it. My Dad hated it there, other than going to Dodger stadium, and always said he wanted to live in a place where he could stand naked on his back porch and scream at the top of his lungs and not bother anyone. The only benefit I could see is that the city gives the fucktards a place to live and it keeps them away from the burbs (I wish) and the flyover areas.

Now that my job is pretty much remote, it’s hard to see why I need to be here though. Although some of the restaurants are pretty darn good too. Again, I’d trade all of that for living on land in the middle of nowhere.

Not only do I hate to go into a city, I'm to the point when traveling anywhere outside of a 25 mile radius, my get home,... No Matter What Bag,... is riding shotgun. I'm an introvert, so if there is something I like less than being around people, it's being around millions of people. So I don't tend to do the big-city stuff that often, and it's even less likely now. Events so far in 2020 seem to suggest that stacking a lot of people in a small space is not the greatest idea.

At this point I share Red's point of view. Thirty years ago I swore Id never cross the Hudson south of Tarrytown (NY)and I havent. They do, however have their place. I used to enjoy going to DC to the Kennedy Center for concerts, ballets and what have you. Or to visit the National Cathedral or Arboretum. Now, I prefer to sit on the porch and listen to the trees grow. To much b/s in the cities and fuck the traffic.

I used to intentionally visit cities years ago. Like Redmanss, I've travelled around the world, but haven't done much OCONUS, other than visit our crazy cousins in Canada in over a decade.

I don't plan on much if any remaining OCONUS travel within my lifetime - Canada excluded which is mostly focused in Alberta.

I've avoided cities whenever possible for quite a long time and don't plan on changing that.

Similar to my approach to cities, I don't care for events where large groups of people gather - always a shit show in waiting .

I don't have the patience to deal with traffic ingress or egress from such events any longer - been there done that, and its just not important to my life.

So i have property in BFE, as in the nearest stoplight is 50 miles in any direction. Nearest town is so small it doesn’t even have a stop sign down the main road. There is no sewer or water service, just a town well that is stupid cheap to fill water tank ls with or there is a delivery service that is reasonably priced. Its quiet, i can shoot in any direction, game animals and lots of dirt roads going all over the place. It has 2 small lakes with fish just on the edge of town. There is a couple restaurants and a couple gas stations as its on a trucking route. Whenever i come back to town i am grumpy.

Socialist shitholes populate themselves with their groupthink from the Universities, which is populated by large companies and corporations, bringing more people inline with their ways and makes them financially dependent upon the city for income., and completes the cycle of stupid.

It's all part of Agenda 21, 2030 and 2050, bring everyone in from rural America to the cities, make them dependent upon the cities and control every aspect of their lives.

So in line with the Topic of this thread, my recommendation is to be a minimum of 35-50 miles away from any major university, and you've avoided the cities.
