The 7-35x56 is a hell of an optic, 4-32 isn’t bad but they are in completely different classes
Spot on. The NX8 is NXS technology, which is solid, but 10 years old. Solid, great value, great glass, but not the same coatings and tollerances that the ATACR has. Also, at 30mm, does not have the same travel on the turrets.
NX8 is designed as a value play in the upper-end scope market where you actually have 8x zoom, which was not practical, from a technological production standpoint when the NXS (largely a 5x zoom) was manfuacturer 10 or so years ago. To further that value play, NF is now offering NX8 in 2nd focal plane, for hunters and bench target shoters. Tactical and PRS guys have always prefered the 1st Focal Plane.
ATACR is a world class scope, and is 1st Focal Plane. We outfit guys who shooting steel at 2,000 yards and more with the 7-35x ATACR, and they are getting the crispness and clarity needed for that range.
So, like others have said, it all depends on your use, and to some extent your budget. Some will spend even more and get the Tangent Theta with 25x. I like to say that optics are like shoes. You have to try them and see what fits you.
