Just want to get others opinions...ATACR is $900 more. Which would you choose?

I have the NX8 4-32x50 and really like it but always wanted an ATACR 7-35x56.

I know this is subjective but if it were you would you pay $900 more for a pre-owned ATACR? The $900 could be used for other upgrades.

TRG 22 in 6.5 Creedmoor, also light hunting once in a while out to 500 yards
Wow, lots of room to grow there.
Excellent!

yeah I hear ya that’s the more suited scope huh
4-32 scope is great but it is a shorter, lighter scope. If shooting a trg you aren’t going for a light build so might as well go for the atacr durability and slightly better glass.

Don’t discount a 5-25 atacr. 7-35 might have a hair better glass but they 5-25s sell for 2200-2500 here

Kahles or Minox 5-25 are also good choices

i shot both side by side - both new - 2 weeks ago out to 1500 yards - both on 6cm. 7-35 is just better glass. Better parallax. When you set zero the 7-35 feels more rugged etc. clearly they occupy two different tiers.

TRG=ATACR. ATACR is a whole nother level of glass/features/specs and fits the TRG better IMO.
Which ever size makes you feel good. IMO 5-25 fits what you’ve told us better than 7-35. If you’d said you’ll regularly be shooting out to 1000, then 7-35 “can” make more sense. Just my opinion

Only thing I might add is with pre owned you may be taking your chances. I have both and my opinion is that I haven't had the time come up yet where I said "I wish I had the 35 right now" I do know that there will be times when the difference is more noticeable, I just can't say it's every day.

The 7-35x56 is a hell of an optic, 4-32 isn’t bad but they are in completely different classes

Spot on. The NX8 is NXS technology, which is solid, but 10 years old. Solid, great value, great glass, but not the same coatings and tollerances that the ATACR has. Also, at 30mm, does not have the same travel on the turrets.

NX8 is designed as a value play in the upper-end scope market where you actually have 8x zoom, which was not practical, from a technological production standpoint when the NXS (largely a 5x zoom) was manfuacturer 10 or so years ago. To further that value play, NF is now offering NX8 in 2nd focal plane, for hunters and bench target shoters. Tactical and PRS guys have always prefered the 1st Focal Plane.

ATACR is a world class scope, and is 1st Focal Plane. We outfit guys who shooting steel at 2,000 yards and more with the 7-35x ATACR, and they are getting the crispness and clarity needed for that range.

So, like others have said, it all depends on your use, and to some extent your budget. Some will spend even more and get the Tangent Theta with 25x. I like to say that optics are like shoes. You have to try them and see what fits you.
