I had Basal cell on the outside of my right nostril. Finally went in to get it taken care of in March of this year. Had "Mohs" surgery.
Basal cell carcinoma is at the bottom of the "severity" list.
Of all the surgeries I've had (hips replaced and eyes/cataracts), Mohs sucked great big donkey dicks. Five go arounds before they got it all. All the while, conscious and under Xylocaine/Lidocaine. I'd bet I had over 100 injections that day. It was a very long day.
Would I do it again, knowing what I now know ? Yeah, absolutely, no other options. But, it wasn't fun. With the "bigger" surgeries, they knock you out/you're under a general and when they're done, you wake up. Easy peasy.

Had a squamous cell skin cancer on the back of my hand that had to be removed. It was early stage and they carved about a nickel size hole removing all three layers of skin. Being fair complected and living in the desert southwest with lots of sun exposure, I get checked out by a dermatologist on an annual basis. Over the years lots of non-cancerous lesions burned and carved off. Protect your skin and get checked out on a regular basis. Known several folks who had melanoma some of whom didn't survive and the ones that did got carved up pretty well.

I have had two resectable stage 3 and one stage 2 melanomas. About as close as you can get without it spreading to vitals. Countless other crap cut off me too. I had to get blood tests and monitoring/imaging for awhile to make sure it hadn't gone to my lymph nodes. That started in my teens, when the girl cutting my hair noticed a black spot on the top of my ear and told me to go to a doctor. Probably saved my life honestly.
Being Irish and growing up in South FL is brutal on the skin. Spent a lot of time on the water, fishing, kiteboarding, playing sports outside through college. I didn't have game consoles and the internet to keep me inside. We ran around without a shirts and no shoes for the majority of my childhood. Sunburns were an almost daily occurrence.
One of my biggest regrets if I could go back, would be to tell myself to put on a long sleeve shirt and a hat sunscreen. It is what it is at this point. No going back. I always joke when I take my shirt off that I look like a manatee that hangs out in the channel too much.
