Today's number is actually not that big a deal in a vacuum. People have been screaming about hyperinflation, and this is not that. It is disconcerting in light of the employment report last month, and, as you say, in light of poor incentives put in place by the current government, but outside of that, it should be taken in stride. The real issue is that given the employment issues, which are directly related to Biden policies, and the mild inflationary pressure, which is not unexpected in light of policy and circumstance over twelve months, we don't currently have any good policy alternatives once we figure out which of the two disparate risks is more problematic. All in, it isn't a great inflation number, but it isn't half as bad as the employment data was, so it is reasonable to see the risks as balanced, but high.Dude...really.
