Cattle get antibiotics when they have a problem. Last shot of penecilun I had to give cost me $90 in February because on top of the vet shit, there's a national shortage of antibiotics.
Cattle will get the antibiotics out of their systems in about a week. When they have a wound, foot infection or some issues with afterbirth, a shot of real penicillin will knock it out.
And yes, the problem is in the chicken feed and not in the cattle producers.
After the cattle are sold off my operation, it goes to a feed lot for several months. You want to monitor it there? Then do it. Do blood draws on their cattle as a random crossection and verify that way. I'm sure government would love to grow itself more
Back in our horse training days (the damn critters got sick every other day, seemingly just to spite me) Our vet, taught me how to give every type of injection and also to safely draw blood. Reason, our little farm was so far away from anything, the horse would probably be dead before he got there.
Background, for those who don’t know, horses have a high degree of shock. Its a survival thing. Can’t let the predators know you are sick. So, when they finally do show that they are having a problem, they are Really having a problem that needs immediate medical attention. Without the immeadiate meds, they might survive till the Veterinarian got there, they’re survival was just the beginning of a long and painful death.
So, I could give inter-veinous injections, in the muscle, where ever. Kept the meds in a fridge in the barn. I became quite the country doctor of sorts, no never practiced medicine on a human, (excepting I was trained as a human first responder) but if a horse was down, I knew the symptoms and the immediate care necessary.
Guess those days are gone. Still got the fridge, some ribbons and trophy’s, one old saddle and pictures. All the rest is long gone. Not missin it.
Oh, yep, I can give any kind of injection needed, but don’t ask me to look at anyone putting a needle in my arm, or worse, draw blood from my arm. Can’t handle it.
