Pretty sure his 3 appointees will NOT be originalists. I'm most disappointed with ACB. Whilst I thought she was going to be good, I'll admit I didn't take into account she has a large exposure to being blackmailed because of her large family. Never expected much from Kavanaugh - Levin warned us about him. But ACB will be the next RBG at current rate.
So far this session ACB has voted with Clarence Thomas 100% of the time. I assume your argument against her is that she voted not to take the very flawed election cases, or is there something else?

No, I am not proposing we beat them at the dependency game. I am proposing we beat them at the idea game. We have done it before. We have to offer a positive concept of society that is preferable to the median voter than that which the Democrats offer. Given the dismal outlook on the world they propose, that shouldn't be that hard. I agree with you we will not win over the 40% that are unwinnable for various reasons, but we cannot have a message that tops out at 46 or 47%. The presidential election aside, as we will agree to disagree on that, we got shellacked in 2018 mainly because of how many people were turned off. That was the difference between 2016 and 2018. Did better in 2020, but we need to do better still or we are fucked.

The democrats offered exactly what they are giving us.

They said they were going to shut down steel than when they do it the steel union cries "Why?"

Did we not know energy dependency and submission to Iran was on the menu? Boom goodbye pipelines.

No one believed Mein Kampf either.

People were turned off in 2018 by a congress that from 2010 told us what they would do....Trump gave them the chance to fulfill the promise......and they refused. This is what we got....

The only good things the govt has accomplished since 2008 was by outsiders - Tea Party and Trump.

In both cases the establishment fucked those movements.

Yeah, nothing to see here. That door, the 2 cops and a court order should have prevented this from occurring. I can't imagiine how this is happening.....
It’s just more of the same utterly brazen BS that the left’s been pulling since 11/3... They have no shame and no fear, since they’ve been getting away with it all ever since. I never thought they’d pull the same crap with the Georgia run-off, so close on the heels of 11/3, only to watch the exact same late-night vote dumps... that’s when I knew they have utterly no fear of repercussions...

I don't know. From everybody I talked to who switched from R to D in '18, it wasn't about being disappointed that the Republicans hadn't overturned Obamacare, which had, by that time gone above water in approval, it was about the dislike for Trump the person, and his harried policies. Now, a lot of that was unfair and due to shitty media, but it is what it is.

Nevertheless, regarding the Tea Party and Trump having the major accomplishments in that period, that is definitely true, but it probably had less to do with their outsider status and more to do with the arrival of each in government changed the power dynamic and allowed for different results. In the first case, it went from all D to a stopper in the house, and in the second case it went to all R. Still, I'd argue that the Tea Party and Trump were successful in getting to power for exactly the reason I suggested above, they offered a different vision. The tea party, in fact, appealed electorally to many of the same voters I am talking about, middle class, suburban women who worry about education and debt. Unfortunately, while Trump brought in some non traditional Republican voters, he bled the ones the Tea Party cultivated, which is ironic in that they were both "outsider" movements, as much as a Karl Rove supported movement and a man who had been a famous billionaire for three decades could actually be considered outsiders.

The point being, neither of them gave up, complained about unfairness and screamed about the "Commies." They offered a vision that people liked and had a strategy for communicating it, which is the only way forward in politics.

Is this where we are going?

its ironic the actor who plays him is actually an America hating commie. but that could be said about nearly any actor, there are a few exceptions but they are mostly dead or 85+years old

actually, it seems arson, looting, and causing billions in destruction in major american cities is pretty politically advantageous also. seems to be pretty profitable too. BLM took in like 90 million last year and with the exception of a few mansions and cars, the majority of that went directly to Democrats election efforts.

I know you are saying this with snark, but it is actually true in a way. The Democrats helped create a picture of a burning dystopia as "Trump's America" and then sold it politically. It worked. We have to sell a better story. I am not talking about giving handouts or being above the fray, just simple marketing. If you can't sell a better story than your competitor, you aren't going to do very well.

Sure, propaganda, if you want to call it that. I don't think it requires being as outright cynical as the Democrats were, but you definitely cannot win without a good communications strategy, a coherent message, and a vision.

you can't win when the other side controls 95% of the media outlets and "mainstream news".

So give up. That the media is controlled by the left is true. But it always has been, and generally more than now. And before, even conservatives assumed left wingers like Walter Chronkite were straight news, so in that way, things are better now. But really saying we can't win isn't much of a strategy, when you think about it.

It's too bad that the fire on the Forrestal didn't ruin his career then we would have never even heard of him.

So we have lost one day of production in 1/4 of normal capacity day.

We are not out of beef and just need to move beef to smaller local butchers.

Fire up the 100 mph diesels with the flames shooting out of the stacks like the ones I used to follow in the old days.

Smelly but a fast way to get down the highway. My little hot rod could barely keep up.

i didn't mean to imply it was not possible to win, but perhaps we need to purge the country of treasonous news outlets or those that control them.
i don't see any other way to inject truth into the narrative, do you?

The 1996 Telecommunications Act signed by Bill Clinton ended a free and fair press. It allowed for the concentration of Media from thousands of independents to 6 or 7 huge Corporations. Fact.

Section 230 is in it also.
I don't know how old everybody is in here, but I can tell you that there are basically two eras of news media. The first was pre-Rush Limbaugh, the current is peri and post Rush Limbaugh. When I was a teen, Dan Rather was the news. He wasn't the left wing news, or the mainstream news. Nobody knew he was a fucking socialist weirdo who would put fake documents up to influence an election. He was simply trusted. There was no pushback, no inkling. Yeah, Nixon complained about the press, but the difference between then and now is immense. We can argue all we want about Fox News, but it is also way, way different than anything that was around pre Rush. I can guarantee you that the 80s and 90s were no prelapsarian golden age of fair media. It was shit.

There are a lot of people with big audiences, some people with small audiences. I am no communications expert (lol) but clearly there are diverse forms of media getting out. If there weren't, Facebook and Twitter wouldn't be trying to shut them down. My belief, and I know many here disagree, is to make sure that we are unimpeachable in what we say, not because of being better, but because, as we have seen, mistakes are amplified to an astounding degree. That has always been my message, even if I haven't always communicated it well. It sucks to be a conservative trying to get information out. But here we are...

I don't know about purging them. The are doing a pretty good job of destroying their credibility, and we need to assist them in doing so. I think a legacy problem is that even if people don't trust the media, they are so programmed to go to it for information that no level of skepticism is great enough.

I'm more worried about the propaganda in government schools, to be honest. I don't know how we overcome that long term.

Gee...do you think it was unintended consequences?

Geo Stephanpoopulous moving into media was part of that move and the incestuous relationships between media and communists has only gotten worse.

They didnt win the last election even with an in the pocket propaganda media.

Good camera angles of Bidens unattended "Rallies" and bad camera angles of Trumps wildly supported rallies were not enough.

The election system needs to have integrity.

Even with the cheat plan in place its planner was so vain he never thought Trump would out poll him and they found out they fucked it up at 11 pm.

If he wasnt untouchable he would have been gone before the Forrestal.

That is so very true. Too bad he didn't die a glorious death over North Vietnam.

I don't say that lightly. He's done so much to damage the country that he supposedly fought for. Any sympathy from me for these individuals has quickly faded like a lot of our freedoms.

Having nothing to do with whether Trump is the goodest guy or the baddest guy in the whole world, given the makeup of the districts in which Republicans would need to prevail in order to win back the house, Trump would be absolute poison for the outcome. It is the opposite of a base vote in these circumstances. It is all about the women who both hate Trump, and who also hate their kids not being in school, and hate that gas prices are too high. You have to know your audience.

No, they target MTG because they know she puts off the same exact people I am talking about. I don't hate her, I think she is easily manipulated into giving them what they want, and they know how to use it. That is why people refer to her as their new Trump. They don't care about her courage and fighting, they care about her because she is exactly what the voter in the middle, who really only cares about the aesthetics of politics, hates more than anything. They win because they are smarter and more strategic. The answer can't possibly be becoming less strategic about communication and elections.

And I haven't changed my mind on anything other than the utility of being an asshole to those on the same side as me who I think are dead wrong about a lot of this stuff.
Wave that party flag, spout that bullshit about the women in the conservative area don't like him and the rest of the never Trump bullshit. It's funny that the repukian party is sending out the usual money begging letter except they are using the Trump policies to do so.

If you can ignore that explain the 73+ million votes.
Nevermind, continue with the standard..... Vote for us, we'll stop those bad democrats. Just send us money so we can defeat them and we promise to repeal and replace!! Damnit!!! We'll do it this time. Trust us.

when you control over 95% of the narrative, efficacy is a given.
how many people never heard trump condemn white supremacy in charlottesville?
even his impeachment defense lawyer believed that "good people" lie until he watched the tapes the evening before the trial started.
the fucking evening before the trial started, he had believed trump was a racist that failed to condemn the kkk and white nationalists.
his own fucking lawyer, and i would assume he considers himself well informed.

Tell me about it. I have read the actual quote to more people than I can count.

I disagree about efficacy being a given. Look at the Tea Party and 2016. They cannot always control the narrative, as in the Tea Party, and they make big mistakes, as in pushing Trump in the 2016 primaries because they saw him as the weakest candidate. History didn't start in 2017, much as it may feel as though it did.

lol, they loved the tea party and trump as a candidate, because they were too ignorant to take it seriously.
that wasn't their lack of control, that was their mistake.

IIRC it was you that was giving shit to a certain republican because she compared something to the Holocaust. You dog piled with McCarthy and a few others. Then someone posted the statement that was twisted by the pravda and you said... Well she's still a bad representative of the repukian party.
