Ironically, as a result of these migrants, a tidal wave of guns from war torn eastern Europe and military munitions are finding their way easily to native hooligan gangs as well. In the past, gangs postured, intimidated each other, and sometimes fought with bike chains, golf clubs, and truncheons. Now many gangs got Krinkovs, cut down AKs of various types, and grenades.

Many blank firing guns are made using the lowest grade steels AKA pot metal. These brittle steels shatter under significant pressure and they shatter like grenade casings. It is far safer for people with mechanical knowledge to construct "Liberator" style zipguns using tool steel components compiled from hardware stores. It is not difficult at all to make a 1 or 2 shot .36 caliber black powder derringer using some strong tubing and electrically fired with a CR123 battery. In a scenario where you find yourself using such a piece, you will only need 1-2 good hits and hopefully you upgrade to a far better platform with the battlefield loot you just acquired.

Reminds me of an account I once heard of inmates in prison making working firearms by rolling paper into tight tubes, filling one end with powdered match heads and sealing it, then stuffing a toothpick or nail down the front, and lighting it off from a vent at the top and using them to injure inmates across the hall and passing guards.
