Pentagon deploys Navy destroyer for border protection
The USS Gravely, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer most recently deployed to the Middle East, departed Virginia on Saturday on its new mission to operate in U.S. and international waters, according to the Pentagon.
This is a name with strength.
There was a garden tractor many years ago with that name. I stood in the back seat of a 1951 Packard driven by Mom looking out the rear window at Dad roading it home when he bought it used. Dad wouldn't let me use it until I was about 8 or so, and then only for mowing. Couldn't use the rotary plow until almost 12. Dad kept 4 pistons on the shelf in coffee cans, a 0, 20, 40, and a 60. Then he would buy a new cylinder, put it on and start over. My brother still has it.
The name is still out there in the garden tractor/mower world. But they aren't the same in my mind. Those old ones did everything with the available attachments. 4 bolts to hook anything to the front. The new ones units are way more job specific.
The one shown is little newer than the one I used, but you get the idea. If this destroyer lives up to it's name our Navy will have a good piece of equipment.
Bet there are a couple of other old farts that also remember these.
Thank you,
