That’s an other option, but 22 seems small for prs and I know some people in tac class do it

A 6BR with a 105 hybrid is a lot better than a 308. Rough 10mph wind at 1000 yards would be 2.0 mils vs 2.4. A faster 6x47 might be 1.8 mils.

I'm building a 22BR soon and moving my 6Creed to a 6 Dasher for the next barrel but I refuse to fireform or pay for hydroformed brass ($155/100 is ridiculous) so I'm using the Norma Dasher brass.

I shot a buddies Norma Dasher rig a few months ago and was getting 2970 with 110 SMKs . This Load with RL16 managed a 2.4SD

People hate on Norma brass, but I will take the plunge and decide for myself.

If brass becomes consistently available you will see many people switching. I shot a br and brx but the gt looks very promising. Feeds well, no fireform, low recoil, good barrel life why would you not want it. However you do want to make this brass it is a pita.

If I could get around 2900-3000fps with a BR that could be an option, but I don’t know if that’s possible. The whole 6BR world is very foreign to me, but the original caliber I wanted was a dasher but I got talked out of it.

28" barrel and 2900 would be doable with 105s.

I'd avoid Norma Dasher brass...if fireforming is that big of a negative (it isn't) then buy hydroformed Lapua brass from Hunts Long Range or elsewhere.

My 20" Dasher runs 2800 with a typical load of Varget and 107s. Load development was start at 32.0gr Varget and go up to 33.0 in 0.2gr increments, find pressure and OCW, then tweak seating depth for max consistency...easiest development I've ever done.

ive been shooting a 6BR for awhile...i dont do load development....i get 100 light charge rounds through it then run a seating test with 12 rounds at 30g....start touching and work back .005 at a time....015-.025 is always money...last 2 barrels ive ended up at .020 off with 30.2g of varget with a 108g berger and a cci450.

As far as speed goes it sounds like you have an arbitrary number you want to get to. If you try to run a BR at 2900 plus out of a PRS length barrel you're going to turn it into your 6 Creedmoor more. Run a 105 at mid 2850's in a 26" barrel. For anything under 1000 the speed difference only shows on paper. It will not handicap you over your marksmanship, mental game, or wind calling.

You could pick a Dasher, BRA, GT, XC, whatever and they would all serve you fine. But if you try to run them at an arbitrary speed YOU are going to induce problems that aren't the cartridges fault. Run a 6Creed at 3000 flat with a DTAC with a mild load of 4831SC, RL23, RL26, or H1000 and it will get you a solid 1800+. Run it at 3150 with 4350 and now you're looking at that short barrel life it's famous for.

As far as fireforming goes, hmmmm....let me remember....it's been so long ago that I formed my Dasher brass...was it a pain in the ass? I've had it for 4 barrels. I seem to remember fireforming at practices or a club match. Was it difficult...?... Don't really remember

I never really thought of that, I’m chasing a magic number that doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things. I’m running my 6creed on h4350 pushing right around 3100 and awesome so I know I’m just cooking the throat even with the short freebore I’m running.

Maybe I should just take a step back from chasing the razors edge of speed and focus on the little things that will improve my shooting skills instead of using speed as a bandaid. Maybe I’ll go with the BR variants and not push the speed, since one of the best local guys is running a dasher at a conservative speed

Chalk me up as 1 guy interested in Gay Tiger that wouldn't have given 2 shits about another 6mm cartridge. Interested to the point that I'm confirming a digital laser mark for a barrel in December and planning out Alpha ? ? brass and dies. I might even have a chance to shoot one before I buy it at a local match because another dude has his nearly finished, again because of the name. He's actually a ?? though so it was more an external expression of his spirit animal if that makes sense.

This. Buy 6BR brass, run it thru a 22BR die, load with 28-29 gr of Varget, 27-28 gr of H4895, or even 32 gr of Rl16, 88gr ELDM .020" off the lands, shoot tiny groups and as flat or flatter than a Dasher. I have 1500+ rounds on mine now. Getting 3000 to 3100 fps with the above powders.

I think the pile of match brass is 375 cases, not sure how the math works out. I started out with 300, added another 100 at a later date and just tossed them into the pile.

I recently picked up another 200 pieces of mostly worn out brass (nearly free) that I'm going to use to ride a couple barrels into the ground for practice. They are over 2k rounds and past the point where I would run at a match, but they still shoot good.

I just went the Dasher route and couldn't be happier. Fireforming (false shoulder + jam) doesn't take that much extra time, and the loads are more than accurate enough to compete with. I cam from an XC shooting 105 hybrids at ~ 3090. Now I'm running 110s in my Dashers. If you run the numbers, a 110 going 2850 has roughly .2 mils less wind drift at 1k than a 105 hybrid at 3100.

You can't use a 6CM to push a 105 to 3190 without torching the barrel. Convince people a smaller case than a 6x47 by a whole tenth of an inch is going to magically mean more barrel life, with less capacity, at the same speed? Now you've got people buying new rifles because we found this year's golden chalice.

Don't worry, barrels on the shelf ready to go when you hit 1200 rounds pushing 115s to 3000 out of an even smaller case.

Just ordered another 6br barrel yesterday from MH for my AI/AX. I varmint with it using 88gr Bergers and load 600-800 rounds for a shoot. Nice not having to chase the lands. Almost any load shoots .5's or better. An 88gr Berger loaded .015 off with 31.0 Varget on a 26"
#18 light varmint (Gradous) 1:10 stick yields 2989 fps with SD of 2.0 , I've not seen that in the 40 or 50 loads I've "magnetspeed" in other calibers.

I use Whidden. Harrell's also makes 6BRA dies. Another option is to take a dasher sizing die and trim 0.080" off. For seating dies, you can use dasher seating dies.
