32 years ago I met a couple old growth timber cutters in North Bend WA. I was 29 and thought I was in pretty good shape, so I ended up falling timber with them for 5 seasons until I realized it might not be the job for me. As you can imagine, there are a few hunting and logging stories that involve the 3 of us. We stayed friends all this time even though there were times when we would'nt see each other for a couple of years. Kermit stayed in the woods, Steve went into sales and I became an electrician.
We used to be able to sneak into the Cedar River watershed in the morning and haul out an elk by that afternoon. So here we are, chemo-therapy, high blood pressure, VA disability, and a few other life events under our belt, we are heading to Craig, Ak at the end of the month for Black bear and Steelhead.
I don't know if there is a moral to this story, but I do know, the older I get, the more my family and friends mean to me. I doubt if the fish and the bears will tremble upon our arrival.
