those prices make it clear this is "surge" or demand pricing, not related to manuracturing costs, else RL50 (unpopular) would not cost so much less than RL15/16/33 (more popular).

Is it me, or is it easier and cheaper to find powder local now than online? It used to be the other way around, meaning the local guys were trying to gouge higher prices than the online guys. Now I can get RL16 local about $100 cheaper than online. Same with H4350, Varget, and several other powders, $50 cheaper than online
In Texas I've been on a lot of work trips stopping into LGS and seeing overall higher prices on powder but I've been scoring normal prices on 210m and 215m
I.e. $80 for a lb of varget but $11 per 100 of 210Ms

Powder Valley currently has OEM packaged CCI 450 primers on sale for $79.99/1k.
Lol! Or they'll pull their other trick of lowering the price $25 but packaging it in the 5# jugs instead of the 8# jugs.
Powder Valley is still sitting on 194 8# jugs of RL16 at $475... Keep in mind they had about 283 jugs in stock in the middle of February, and they only moved a little of it when they had a "sale" on it for $425 in mid March, so they really aren't moving their RL16 inventory that fast.
Let's see if that post and the apparent impending unavailability of alliant powders gets that inventory to move...
I love me some RL16 and AR Comp, but it looks like when my current inventory is depleted, I might be switching powders.

I figured most manufacturers of gunpowder made NC in house... I know VihtaVuori does. And I can't imagine there would be a giant pool of shippers willing to ship the finished product anyway.
And it's made from 3 freakin' ingredients... That you can order online. Hell, Amazon probably sells all 3. You can make it in your kitchen. (Yes I realize industrial scale and quality differ from homemade. But it's still 3 readily available ingredients.)
So is Vista saying Alliant doesn't have the capacity to make enough NC? Or are they saying they can't get cotton/wood pulp, and 2 readily available acids?
I know, tinfoil hat and all that. But after the last few years and Vista's track record of actually telling the truth... I have some doubts.

Both can't import enough nor produce enough (to satisfy both retail consumer demand and military demand). China, India, Thailand are the top 3 largest exporters of nitrocellulose. Global demand is through the roof and nitrocellulose is used for more than just gunpowder.

The article doesn't state how much the US relies on China for cotton linters/nitrocellulose products and one would hope it's nowhere close to 70% but it's likely much higher than one would expect.
So basically for handloaders looking at this thread, if a deal gets posted and you're running low, unless you're willing to wait 1-2 years or maybe even longer for material supply to catch up with demand (production timeline based on estimates in other articles), might want to strongly consider purchasing or seek alternatives like pull down powders.
