Power trickler

When i go off into the loading room it is a time i use to decompress from the world around me. Shut the door turn on some background noise and load up some rounds.
i am looking to upgrade the trickle process and want to know about some power tricklers other than the v3. I never load in a hurry so not real concerned about speed. Lazy and would rather make it easier is all.
any good info on the dandy one or any others that may be out there??

I don’t know of any on top of my head but have you used the V3? Any reason not to go with it?

I love mine with the new Bluetooth connection, it’s much easier to work with than before. Still would like a Prometheus one of these days .

No reason not to go with the v3 just looking at options is all. Maybe availability but thats not a big deal either

I mean. I used a charge master 1500 for the last 8 months or so. Just upgraded to the v3 for the accuracy and having zero doubt about the scale. My charge master worked fine though but now it’s just going to sit. That’s a good option.

I've used most everything...and the AutoTricklerV3 is just so far ahead of the rest of the game...except the Prometheus...but I prefer the ease of setup of the V3. The accuracy and peace of mind I get with the V3 is why I went with it. It has also showed up on my groups....when you can see the difference...you can prove the difference...it makes spending that much money easier to swallow.

I know you shoot some ELR, so I can imagine it makes a lot of difference past 1000yds, but what kind of difference are you seeing in your groups?

I run two chargemasters and I really like them, but man its tough to swallow that price/addition of the V3 setup for what I do. The shitty part is my original chargemaster 1500 is starting to drift and gets finnicky and has me either needing another CM Lite or going bigger.

I could buy just the FX120 and then upgrade later, but for $500 I could get a Labradar.... decisions, decisions...

If I were you and didn’t want to drop the dime on the full autothrow setup, just get the autotrickler and fx120i. You can manually throw under the target load and have it finish trickling, and will still be faster/more consistent than the chargemaster. When I compared my cm lite to my fx120i it was getting an extreme spread of .1 gr of powder. That’s the spread also and the sd was much smaller. I didn’t see much difference in my 6bra but definitely did in my .223 which has less case capacity. The main thing that everyone will tell you with the autothrow is the speed, it will make you never look back at the cm and also appreciate the consistency

At 1 mile....it is the difference between hitting and missing barely. I had a 25" group on paper at 1 mile earlier in the year that had a 4" vertical. That made me a believer in the V3.

However, the other day...for shits and giggles...I was shooting groups at 100yds with my 308 using pot luck ammo....just stuff I've thrown in the Fat50 can for what some of you may call 'Armageddon Ammo'. Probably 20 head stamps of brass....3 different primer brands....but the same BL-C(2) powder and charge and the same bullet...but thrown with an RCBS thrower. My SD was 37.7....not my ES...but my SD....and I shot a 1/2" group....it was silly. We know past 100yds that isn't going to perform....or so I thought.

I go to TVP on Thursday and after shooting the 300PRC...I pull out the 308 with the same pot luck ammo....and walk from 200yd to 700yd with ease...using mostly hold overs. So...out to 700 yds on 12" steel plates...it was automatic....just bang ding....bang ding....bang ding. At 1000yd it was miss right....miss high....ding.....miss left....miss low....ding.....all the with same center hold...but is that the nature of a 168gr match bullet at 1000yds?

At 1100 and 1200 yards with this 308 ammo...it was probably less than a 20% hit rate...but you could really start seeing the vertical spread. So, I think it all comes down to what you do...and what you expect. I expect perfection from each round....so when I miss...I know it is me....there is no excuse....it's not the rifle....it's not the ammo....it is because I made a bad wind call...and I can work on that...and advance my learning...but if I'm adjusting my learning based on faulty underlying data...then I'm just chasing my tail.

So...the V3 for me is....simply a tool that removes variables....and it is quick...it is nice...I like nice things...and it is worth every penny I paid for it.

Thats not a bad idea at all...
With the two modded Chargemasters, I can't load faster than they spit out powder. With XBR 8208, they're spot on 95% of the time, with H4350 more like 75%. But obviously I'm sure they're not as accurate as the autotrickler/FX120.

I've setup a manual trickler that I modded a little to throw one kernal at a time and did some testing on my CM Lite. I found that 2-3 kernals of H4350 will register as 0.1gr on the Lite, but it takes about 5 sec to register. 3-5 kernals will register right away, but 5 kernals will occasionally push to 0.2gr up. I was surprised how sensitive it can be when using a trickler.

I want to set up two manual tricklers over both my chargemasters and do 100rds where I throw to 0.1-0.2 gr low and then trickler up. It'd only take a few kernals (a few sec)...and see if that makes any difference in ES numbers.


In an effort to not completely derail. OP its not a power trickler but I have the Lyman manual trickler and its pretty nice. I can get it to trickle 1, occasionally 2 kernals at a time. I'm not aware of any power tricklers besides the Dandy or the Autotrickler

As far as the elr stuff goes, ( in the above post) , i was talking with one of the guys from applied ballistics elr team at the gap grind. He said that a 4fps es at one mile is a miss. I have never shot to a mile but would like to someday since there is a range within a few hours that allows it some. One day one day. Lol.

I think he may have meant two miles. 4fps ES at 1800yds only accounts for 6" of difference, and thats with my 147's going 2700.

at 10fps ES, I'm getting 15" of variation, so if you held dead center on an 18" target, you should still be able to hit given a clean shot and correct wind call.

Of course, this is just with my combo. Someone shooting a 300 PRC is going to have a more forgiving situation than mine.
