precision rifles... show em

So after getting all of the pieces scrapped together to my liking I finally got my 338 Lapua built. I had a 50 BMG but figured if I was going to be paying that much for ammo, I might as well get something a little more accurate and tamable. So I sent a factory M700 MLR 338 Lapua Police to Phoenix Custom Rifles to get redone. Here are the specs:

- Remington 700 M24 style action
- Rock Creek 1:9.4 twist barrel 29" finished, tapered to .900 at muzzle
- SAS Tactical custom muzzle brake designed after the 5 port one RWS makes
- KRG Whiskey 3 Gen 3 fixed long action chassis
- Harris Bipod (might upgrade to an atlas later)
- Phoenix Custom Rifles "Phoenix" bolt knob
- Nightforce 20 MOA base with 8-40 screws (had the raceway opened up)
- Timney trigger set at 1.5#
- Vortex match rings
- Sightron Siii 8-32x50 (may look to upgrade later and get into mil-mil instead of MOA but for now I really like this scope).
- Duracoated matte black by me.

A special shout-out to Keith Johns over as Phoenix Custom Rifles. He is absolutely awesome with his work and his communication is spectacular! He was very patient with me when I would ask a lot of questions and certainly knows his stuff and what he is doing. I would highly recommend them for any custom work; from their bolt knob installation promotion that they run, to a full blown build.

Also SAS Tactical (I found them on Ebay and just order through messages on Facebook now)..This guy has been able to create just about any style brake I can come up with for him. Great guy to work with and makes very very nice and well priced brakes.

Enjoy the couple pictures I put up!

Still a work in progress but so far

R700 AAC-SD
Manners T4A w/mini chassis
Nightforce F1 w/MLR2 reticle in the med NF rings it came with (probably gonna replace with a set of badger lows I have lying around)
Harris bipod

Took it to the range today for the first time and it's a significantly better shooter than me. I've never really fired from a bench before, always in the prone(which was not allowed at this range) so it felt a little awkward(also probably didn't help I was using a sock full of rice as a rear bag). Not a fan of the X-Mark trigger, feels really heavy, and I only had Prvi 168 BTHP ammo and the range didn't have any FGMM so I'm sure with a little practice, better ammo, and trigger I could get the rifle to Sub 1/2 MOA.

Updated my rifle.

Added the AICS 1.5 to try the chassis style stocks. I have had several Manners and love them , but wanted to try something new. I like the ability to not only adjust comb height, but also move it a bit to the right. My only worry with the chassis is the weight. I am wanting to do a precision rifle match soon and worry the weight will be an issue.

You should be very happy with that, the Prvi ammo isn't exactly world-class...

Finally got this one set-up. It took a while and I had to sell a bunch of other toys along the way, but come first trip to the range I'm sure it will be worth it.

AX chassis
RWS sharpshooter (Deviant)
Bartlein barrel (243)
Surefire brake
Timney trigger
Nightforce NXS
Spuhr Mount

Here is a .300 Win Mag I just put together myself. Trued the action, contoured the Bartlien 1:10 blank to a MTU, and pillar bedded it in the McMillan. Sadly it still has the factory trigger in it, which is just awful compared to my Huber in my .260, but money has been tight.

This is regularly what my groups look like with some Remington 180gr accutip I had given to me. Haven't had a chance to try any specific match ammo yet, but if it does this regularly with the Remington stuff and the factory trigger, I can't wait to try some. This was 6 rounds at only 100yrds.

Added a NF NXS 3.5-15x50 with NP-R1 reticle. Scored a smoking' deal through milehighshooters.com and had to go test it out right away. They gun and scope are better than I am. Ran some Black Hills 168gr through it and some Federal GMM 168gr as well. The Gold Medal Match was giving me 1.25 MOA and the Black Hills was closer to 1.75 MOA at 200yds. Still working out some technique issues that I have.

Looking at a getting a rear bag and a Timney trigger to try to help bring those groups in tighter as well.

My new alround shooter to put the hunting back into shooting.

Remington 700 s/a base, trued, shimmed bolt and tac bolt handle, straight fluted bolt, lightweight firing pin assembly
(To be replaced in few weeks by my alloy action)
Jewel trigger with no safty set at 1lbs
Senator 75 carbon stock, duracoated desert tan, with a quick can matt black splash to brake it up
Bartlein 1.8", 24" carbon wrapped barrel chambered in 6mm x 47 Lapua throated to suit 105gr a-max
Carbon monocore overbarrel suppressor. also oversize size can so it just farts @ 282grams
March 2.5-25x42 tac with duplex reticle
Tally rings lapped and pinned

Its a nice 3059grams with can ready to go, will drop bit in the new action

Very happy with how's she's shooting with 105gr a-max for longer stuff at 3170fps an 85gr barnes tsx at 3340fps for the close stuff

My Surgeon/ Jae with 6.5 creed barrel , Proof Research 308 barrel , March 5-40x56 FFP and also have surgeon 223 bolt and 223 barrel getting spun shortly for it.

Kubitza,

Have you done any reviews on the 5-40 March yet? I have the 2.5-25x42 and 3-24x42 and was looking at the 5-40. Biggest question is the low light performance better with the larger objective? I assume yes, but figured I would ask an opinion.
