Rifle Scopes Premier or not?

Hello All, I am looking for some much needed advice and opinions which I hope to find here. I am looking for a scope in the budget of under 1800, and I have some questions that are hopefully not repetitive. I have tried to do much research, going to page infinity on these forums to try and save some time. I was originally set on trying to build an M40a3-5 ish clone and trying to obtain the civilian Premier version of what the USMC uses. I know these scopes are no longer produced and what not (I read these are somewhat of a hot topic). I also wonder in the time those scopes were made compared to now, are they still a good option or are most scopes today in my price range vastly ahead of those Premiers?

While trying to also expand my search within the parameters of 34mm tube (I have Badger USMC rings I want to Use), FFP, 3-15 type power, and Mils/mils, I have also seen rarely a S&B in my price range but not illuminated. I know the brand is great, but I feel for over 1500 Illumination is something a scope should come with (I am probably wrong on this). This will be the nicest scope I have owned to this point, so as far as experience with this stuff I know nothing. I also see great things said about the Bushnells and Vortex scopes, but maybe because of working my way up to where I am now I have only experienced the more budget Bushnells and Vortexes and I cant shake the notion of them being budget brands (narrow minded I know). I also would like a scope that is American made. I have looked at Nightforces, but it seems they tend to be more than I can afford or not 34mm tube.

I have 2 Premiers. A 5-25x56 for my long range elk rig, and a 30mm tube Light Tactical 3-15x50 for a lightweight hunting rifle. I love them. I see a 3-15 Heritage Tactical in my future too, for my AR.

Like you I have a fetish for things USMC.

I had a rifle built that incorporates features from the M40 up through the M40A5. I have wanted a Premier 3-15 with the ST turret and it fit perfect with this build...



I absolutely love the scope and this is my go to rifle. I did luck out getting a well cared for used scope and it is the later revision with the marked parallax.

As long as it doesn't suffer an unfortunate accident this scope should out last me.

If this rifle wasn't sporting a Premier it would have a Schmidt and Bender with H2CMR reticle on it.

have used Premiers for 5+ years and they remain a top tier option. The glass is super good. Tracking always dead nuts precise. Clicks are decent, with some liking the MTC and some not (a personal choice). They are super beefy.

The warranty issue is a huge risk, but I have 4 and none have had issues thru the years of hard use. Marines continue to use them thru the years with even harder use and they aren't having issues (that I have heard of thru the instructors at USMC Quantico). If you can stomach the warranty, I would recommend them highly.

premier made a fantastic scope.
They are out of business and TT can only repair them for so long before parts run out (not that they need it much).

I would say the NF 4-16 f1 would be a great option. Covers everything you want really.


Better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and say oh shit.....

I've got two of the Optronika models. One had issue with parallax slipping from recoil. Issue was fixed by Paul and I haven't had a problem since.

These scopes constantly play musical chairs between several rifles and probably have 8k+ rounds under their belt. Glass is excellent and tracking has been spot on.

I haven't seen anything that has made me want to replace these other than Tangent Theta.

What says any company will exist when you need them?

Even a well established company may not service an older revision item.

One I can say that will is Miele. I have saved a ton of money speaking with their service people regards my home appliance issues. They have me press machine controls to perform an onboard diagnostic, than they tell me what parts I need and send an exploded diagram so I can install them. Ive only had a repairman to my house once in 17 years of washer/dryer/dishwasher ownership and he taught me how to service any similar issues in the future. Miele guarantees parts availability for 30 years.

If Miele starts building scopes I may sell my current stable of glass.

Premier are heavy scopes with good glass.

If it fits the bill ($ and desired need) is for each individual to choose. Since you're asking mass opinion, I'll say fuck no.

But if you buy one at this point and it goes down, nobody wants to hear sob story driveling and crying.

The fact I was seeking a USMC "clone" with that specific scope outweighed my concerns about the warranty.

If it wasn't for the USMC specific want I would have gone elsewhere.

There is a niche out there to fill for anyone in the optics repair field. Its a scope worth paying for to have fixed if someone were willing to do it.
