When adjusting elevation to, say, 6, the hash mark will be in between 5 3/4 and 6. Same issue with windage...when adjusting to 10, hash mark will be between 10 and 10 1/4. This is extremely annoying for tactical competitions that require quick adjustments because the only way to know where exactly I am in the adjustment is to literally count the number of clicks because, due to this issue, I can't glance at the knobs and see exactly where it's at.

Is this something that can be easily fixed with a new set of knobs?

Re: Problem with tactical scope adjustments

What scope are we talking about? Depending on how the knobs attach it could be a simple fix.

My SS 10x HD did this. But I then figured out that I could slightly change the cap placement by taking the knob off and resetting it on the spindle. They have tons of little tiny groves on them that were smaller than the 1/10 mil movement and after messing around a little it was perfect.

Re: Problem with tactical scope adjustments

There is this neat concept of zeroing your knobs. It generally involves loosening the little allen plug screws that hold your scope turret on. Then gently turning the turret to "0" and QUICK before the scope moves screwing the allen plugs back in so that your 100 yard zero is "0". Then you dial up to say 15 MOA and make sure that you are on the line. If not adjust it again and dial back down below zero and come up to zero and check it.

In general most "off center clicks" are due to backlash. In other words only dial to a setting in one direction. If you miss or have to dial down, dial back below and come at it from the same direction (from under it).

Cheers,

Doc

Re: Problem with tactical scope adjustments

It is a Leupold Mark 4 LRT

Well, after fiddling around with it for quite some time, the issue seems to be (oddly) that the markings on the knobs simply aren't precises. The hash mark is right at 0, and when I twist a complete 360 degrees, it will be right back at the same location. But midway through, at the 6 for elevation, the hash mark is way off.

Leupold will expedite a new set of knobs on Monday. I'm relieved that it is not a tracking problem, though. I don't have patience to send it back and wait for a fix! Haha

Re: Problem with tactical scope adjustments

Even if you have to send it back, you will have it back in a week, at most 10 days, depending on shipping time.

I've done a bunch of knob and reticle changeovers, I'm in MO, and if I send one in, I get them back in 7 days.
