How do you handle getting your rifle back from the gun smith and its damaged and the owner calls you a lire and refuses to answer emails and phone calls? I have sent pictures of the damage to him in an email and he refuses to discuss it.

Re: problems with gun smith

What kind of documentation do you have of the work requested and the damage? Do you have any pics of the rifle showing the area in question before shipping? Any chance the damage occured in transit?

How did you pay for the work?

Re: problems with gun smith

I have an itemized bill from the shop and took pictures of the damage when I opened the box and inspected the rifle. I have no pictures of the rifle before shipping. However one of the areas damaged was one that he performed work to and one was not. The box was undamaged so I have ruled out the possibility that the damage occurred during shipment home. I paid for the work over the phone with my credit card the same day I received an email from him stating he was finished and would be shipping the rifle back to me.

Re: problems with gun smith

The problem is did the smith break it or did the shipper break it?
You need to check their shipping policy. Did they insure the package? Generally the shipper is the only one the freight company will talk to.

Give the smith a little time the check his email.(I don't check mine everyday.)

Then start down the list.
Better business bureau
Their local chamber of commerce
The BATF
Then post the name of the company so every one can see the customer service this company provides.

If you don't get anywhere in a week, this is about your only option. Give him the chance to make it right and communicate by email if possible. This will give you a trail that will support your claims with your credit card company.

BATF? really?

I guess I could see that if the smith sold the gun to a cartel or alqueda.

Based on the story line, this a civil matter concerning property damage. The blackhawks can prolly stay in the hangars for this one.

Send a letter via certified mail. Make your demands. If he ignores you, blast his ass on the forums and call the BBB and his local chamber. Peer pressure can be a real motivator.

File a claim with your credit card company and contact your state attourney general's office. Both are really helpful in cases like this. I have had very good luck with the attourney generals office. It's their job to help you. Details on the damage would be helpful.
