I've got no knowledge base on these things. They are very pricey, but are they any good?

I'd be concerned with accuracy, longevity, impact shift with heat buildup. Legitimate concerns in a .308 AI rifle?

Immediate concern is a training class coming up. I think around 250-350 rounds in 2 days, perhaps out to 800 with 175gr 118LR.

Which brings up the question of optimal twist for 168-175gr bullets. 1:10, 1:12?

I don't think you will have an issue. Used my 6 creedmoor for local comps, worked great for me. Also, not to familiar with those grain of bullets. But think 1/10 twist will work fine for the pills.

I run 26 in 1-10 M40 contour in my AI-AE. I never shot the 168 as the 175 SMK or the 178 ELD-M both shoot so good. Proof make a good barrel from what i have seen. You can take measures to keep you barrel cool. I use a Chamber Chiller and the work much better the the Magneto Speed chamber fan and its not got the terrible whine when its running.

I just sold my vudoo with a proof CF barrel and have a 16.5” proof CF barrel chambered in 308 for my AI. The vudoo shot super well. The 308 I am currently working on load dev with but shows promise. The 308 barrel is a 1:10 twist and I’m running 175smk

Do you need the weight savings? On a competition rifle, I'd rather have the weight. On a hunting rifle, I'd only want one out west or elsewhere where I need to hike like a frontiersman just to get to where I need to be. And even then, a Tikka Ultralite will be fine. Only need to shoot once or twice in a row so barrel heat issues really isn't a thing when hunting, unless you're committing piggy murder.

Buy without worry. I've seen some that are fast some that are slow but they all have shot in my experience. My 7 SS has been an absolute laser with my proof. It's one of my favorite rifles i own and have owned.

Yes, weight is an issue. It’s for my daughter to shoot (sometimes) and she is very small. Always been an issue for her, the trade off off weight/strength and recoil management. She doesn’t mind recoil very much, which makes it easier.

Looking into a 16” barrel for an AI. Don’t know how well that will do at longer ranges. And I’m pretty sure the barrels will heat up in class.

Chambered by David Gray at Deep South Tactical here in Ms.
Impact 737
Triggertech Diamond
Manners PRS2 with Mini-chassis
Proof sendero 1:8.4 @ 24"
Vortex AMG
SiCo hybrid is what i currently use on it but probably about to toss on my resonator K if it's not too loud.

Weight is currently at 12lbs as pictured.

Speaking of the Proofs mine was a little slow but i had really really high asperations for the 7 Sherman Short. I was shooting for 3000fps with the 1.5" 180gr ELD M out of a 24" tube. I'm at 2900, but it absolutely hammers. I haven't recovered a bullet yet. Recoil is just a tad more push than Dad's 6.5 SAUM i had built for him.
