I just shot a 1000 yard match using 155 lapuas. My come ups was 27.5 Moas. Shooting 2970 down the tube.

So 43grn of Varget seems to be the consensus?
I'm trying to replicate the M118LR load for my 5R and I have a lot of Varget, Win primers and brass along with 175 SMK's

Using a 30" 1/13 twist. I built this gun just for the 155s. I could have went with a slower twist but I have had great results with the 155s at long range. Why change.

The 175 SMK is a natural for 1000 yds in the .308WIN and I've found that it does well with a number of different loads, while the 155 Scenars are more finicky in my sticks. I also believe it will be much easier to get around 2600 fps from the 175s than 2950 fps from the 155s in your 20" barrel.

The 175 SMK is a natural for 1000 yds in the .308WIN and I've found that it does well with a number of different loads, while the 155 Scenars are more finicky in my sticks. I also believe it will be much easier to get around 2600 fps from the 175s than 2950 fps from the 155s in your 20" barrel.

Went to the range today with my 18.5 inch gap and swr omega can to see if I could hit a thousand. Didn't think it could be done and have kept it around 600/700 till I saw LL's video with his gladius and thought I would give it a try. All my long range out to a mile is done with a 300 win mag and was satisfied with the gap at its intended mid range distance.
Loaded up some 175smk's with 44.5 grains of varget and dialed up 39.5 moa on my us optics scope and was able to hit our large plate at a 1000 at the top of the plate centered. Thanks to an unusually great windless day with hardly any mirage (unheard of at almost 12noon) dropped it down .5 and hit almost center of the plate. Switched over and struck our 12 inch plate 2 times and of course ran out of ammo! Never can load enough of that stuff but was happy to have pushed that rifle that far.

I have had great success using the Berger 175gr VLD with both RL15 and IMR4064 past 1,000 yards. I don't shoot for groups past 500 yards because the only way to get past 500 yards and be off the runway (it's a small plane airport) is to shoot off of the bluff. I have made hits from 1200-1500 yards with my handloads that looked like they hit in the same spot when looking through my scope (10x leupold).
The puddle/water you see in the lower left was right around 1500 yards. I had my elevation knob maxed and had to use the bottom of the scope for my hold with a 5 mil hold to the left to hit the tip of that water but I did so consistently. And my elevation knob wasn't technically maxed out however it's a BDC and only allows for 6 MOA past my 1000 yard mark on the turret.
Also I am roughly 60 feet above sea level depending on the tide, it was 55-60 degrees out and blowing fairly stout but there was 3 crosswinds enroute to the target. My loads are way beyond magazine length and sit right at 2.210" at the ogive.

My 1600 yd Load is Dynamic Research 176grn pushed at 2750FPS I am at 5000ft so I get a little more lift out of my rounds plus the .59 BC helps out to. I am just barely supersonic at that range (depends on temp). I was using TAC powder, CCI 34, Nosler brass.

I just shot 1200yards this evening with 168 A-max going 2630fps and had no proublem hitting my 22x28 inch target.(I just took a large T-shirt and traced it out on 1/4 mild steel and torched it out.) Now keep in mind this is an unbedded remington 700 26 inch sps varmint with a rifle basic trigger NO action work at all untouched crown as well. IM not saying it was a great group around 16-18 inches for the 6 shoots. But Everybody seems to say 168s can't get to 1000 But they work fine for me. My load is 45grains of varget 210m primers Lapua brass and weight sorted 168A-max loaded at 2.830 Col My chrono measured 2630fps 3 out of 5 rounds with an overall spread of 11fps.

The Sps varmint and pretty much all remington 308 700s are 1-12 except the new Sps Tactical AAC which is 1-10 twist.

Just getting into the long range shooting and this is some great info. Going to start with a 308 and I think I will start out with the Lapua Scenar 155, don't have the equipment to reload so factory loads will have to work for now.

What kind of brass are you loading? I just shot again at 1000+ this past weekend trying various loads and brass combos.
My two "go to" loads right now with 175 SMKs and Varget in my SPS-T are:
WIN brass: 44.8 Varget, Fed 210 or 210M, COAL 2.820, 2590 fps
Lapua Brass: 44.6 Varget, Fed 210 or 210M, COAL 2.820, 2615 fps
Both were shooting extremely well out to 1200 yds.
I also retried a 168 AMAX load at 1000 (Lapua, 45.5 varget, 2.860 COAL) and I ended up with the same impression as before. They are just "OK". I was getting some hits on steel and then some just out of the ballpark flyers. However, I shot the 168 AMAXs at a 850 steel man and they were the best of any load that day at that distance. In probably, 10-15 mph wind - my spotter said they easily were under 1/2 MOA.

What kind of brass are you loading? I just shot again at 1000+ this past weekend trying various loads and brass combos.
My two "go to" loads right now with 175 SMKs and Varget in my SPS-T are:
WIN brass: 44.8 Varget, Fed 210 or 210M, COAL 2.820, 2590 fps
Lapua Brass: 44.6 Varget, Fed 210 or 210M, COAL 2.820, 2615 fps
Both were shooting extremely well out to 1200 yds.
I also retried a 168 AMAX load at 1000 (Lapua, 45.5 varget, 2.860 COAL) and I ended up with the same impression as before. They are just "OK". I was getting some hits on steel and then some just out of the ballpark flyers. However, I shot the 168 AMAXs at a 850 steel man and they were the best of any load that day at that distance. In probably, 10-15 mph wind - my spotter said they easily were under 1/2 MOA.
I was out of 178 AMAXs, or I would have shot them. I'm still convinced that the 175SMKs are the "bullet of choice" for 1000 yd out of the SPS-T.

This matches my setup in a 20" LTR pretty closely. 175 SMK, Win Brass, BR2, 45.0gr Varget. Average MV of 2650 fps. Was precise (MOA or better, often 1/2 MOA) to 1250ish yards.

Those shots were with an LTR with a 20" 1:12 barrel.
I have now sold the LTR and moved to an AI AE. I'll see how it performs at a grand and get back to you.

Chubbles and I just finished shooting at 920 and 1217 yds just a few minutes ago, my little sweetheart 10fp was keeping it easily under moa at both ranges with the 175SMK and 44.0gr of RL-15, I love that thing!!!!
