Hey fellas, new here.
Looking to buy my first AR platform rifle. I like long range shooting and want to get into it a little more. I’ve heard good things about the gen 3 AR-10’s from PSA, and for the price they are pretty appealing. What’s your guys opinion on em?

That’s fine, actually that’s what I want to hear. Honest opinions with first hand experience. If I’d be better off spending another $400-$500 then I’m not against it.
Is 1,000 yards out of the question with a PSA-10?

Consult the chart.

I recently helped someone with a problem he was having with a new AR10 build He had a new Aero Precision lower and purchased a complete upper in 308 from Palmetto Armory. He could not get the upper and lower closed and there was a significant gap which prevented the parts from meeting and the rear pin insertion. I took another 308 upper of average quality and it installed and attached properly to the Aero Precision lower. It was apparent that the Palmetto Armory upper was out of spec and I suggested he contact Palmetto Armory and return the new upper. This was about 3 weeks ago and you can use this information to assist you with a decision in your purchase.

It does say right on their site that there uppers/lowers don’t work with Aero Precision.

Do you understand the issues that the AR platform brings to the table, versus a bolt gun, with precision shooting? If I wanted to shoot 1k with an AR I wouldn't cheap out with a Palmetto. It might do it just fine, or it might be trash. AR-10's have a cost of entry to them above that of an AR-15.

The palmetto large frame ARs aren't out of spec. They just have their own "spec" and say things like, accepts SR-25 mags or PMAGS kind of statement. Then you have the Gen 1,2,3 bullshit to deal with.
There isn't a universally accepted or mil-spec pattern for large frame ARs like Ar-15s have, so just be sure to get a matching upper and lower set to start with.

I get what your saying, but I’ve had an itch for an AR-10 for a while. The price kept me a bay for the most part. That’s why PSA got my attention, guess I was hoping to hear good things about em.

Me too! I've wanted one for a long time and made myself get other things first. I just got a Barrett REC10, sighted it in a few days ago. I am happily impressed at how a brand new, chrome lined, steel barrel did with 168gr FGMM. The gun has a lot of features to it that give it a strong edge. Not Knights or LMT level of features, but absolutely a step above PWS, Palmetto, DPMS, etc.

The Palmetto might be a great gun. I just didn't look at the AR-10 platform as a 1,000yd gun, for me. It certainly can, I just didn't buy it for that.

Just an idea, you could pick up one of these lmt 6.5 creedmore uppers and mate it to an appropriate sr25 cut type lower. Lmt is pretty legit and far less than knights. Plus it's an mws upper, so you'd be able to buy a 308 mws barrel and quick change between the two. ?

Two weeks ago my local gun store had a stainless barreled complete MWS for $2,500 and a chrome-lined steel MWS for $2,000. That isn't a good deal. The MWS is great, but heavy.

My AR10 is a Rock River LAR8 and is excellent and very accurate. That said I have a few 15’s that are PSA and they are good for the money. I wouldn’t bet the PSA are on the same level of accuracy as the RR. But they do a great job for the price. Also have an Aero is 300 BO which is very accurate.

You should have set money aside a few months ago and bought one off the px here when the owners couldn’t give them away. Seekins, GA etc were going up for sale $1700-$1800 range

wish I had one even though 4k and all the permits to get it would suck to have to get but i still would love to have one lol . Then again I have never seen a fire arm that I don't already own that I did not wish I did own .

Deets I don't have a 6.5 Creed but I do have a Gen 2 PSA .308. I have the 20" SS version. I bought the complete lower and then the upper. Cost me about $650 for both. Surprisingly it shoots pretty good. I am real happy with it for the cost. I replaced the trigger and shot some Tubb TMS rounds through it for the first 6 rounds (3 then clean then 3 more and clean) to make sure the barrel was smooth. Is it a $3000+ semi auto? Nope but it shoots around MOA and goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I also have a Gen 2 308 PSA, 5-25x50 Vortex, swapped out trigger to a Hiperfire Hipertouch Elite, 419 brake.
Same results as Rob01. Likes 178 eld, 175 FGMM, 168 FGMM.
No compalints whatsoever. Traded my Glock 20 10mm for it.

I enjoy my Large Frame PSA's greatly. 6.5CM and .308.

My first PSA ( Gen II ) 6.5CM shot 5 different factory rounds sub MOA , 5 rd groups , 100yds, with no special cleaning or barrel break in. ( YMMV )

After some tinkering, they have all been very good value, producing very respectable consistent accuracy.

I didn't expect them to be perfect , given the price paid, but my initial precision results prompted me to improve on the accuracy.

And I am completely happy.

And learning how to accurize an AR was an added bonus.

Changing the PSA barrel over to a Criterion 22" produced this 10rd / 100yd group.. I routinely use that rifle to 1200yds

Is every PSA a tack driver ?... Lol, if they were PSA would be selling a them for much more....

However, IMHO, they are a solid platform , especially the Gen III , and worth the money.

Plan on installing a Adj. GB , that makes a heck of a difference on every Large Frame AR I have assembled, various barrel brands, length, gas system lengths and patterns.

A lot of people had issues with earlier PSA products, and IMHO, PSA has ironed out a lot of those bugs.

Would I buy PSA's over again , know now what I didn't know then ?

Yes... the cost of their rifles was a major factor.

And I have a PSA 308 upper that can do this.. 10rds , 100yds

Both those groups were after I added the Adj. GB's ( SLR ), lapped the upper receiver face flat and Loctited the barrel in place, snugged up upper to lower fit, heavy buffer setups, and Lantac muzzle brakes. Various triggers.

So... IMHO, the PSA's can be darned good rifles.

I have the gun your talking about and like it,Have taken it out to 600 with no problem, have no reason to think it would not do 1000 yards.Mostly shoot it suppressed and it came with adjustable gas block. So far I have not had any problems with it.Been shooting prime 130 grain and it seems to like it.For the money it’s been a good weapon.Would also recommend it as well.Good luck and enjoy if you make the purchase.

For what I’m gunna be doin with it, I’m sure PSA would work just fine. A few guys have sent me PM’s with nice rifles for sale also.
Hopefully work picks back up soon and things get back to normal.

Deets,
I received my PSA 6.5 20" back in January. I got it to shoot Gas Gun division in PRS and I've had it out to IK several times with no issues and very good accuracy. It comes with an adjustable gas block, a 2-stage trigger that does break repeatedly at just over 4 lbs. a double ejector bolt and without fail deposits spent cases about 6' away at 4:30.
My only complaint is the bolt catch broke about 300 rounds in and PSA seems to have a hard time keeping them in stock, so I had to mod one from Black Rain to work. Yep, PSA parts only mate with PSA. I have an AERO M5 lower and it won't fit, but it does with other types of DPMS format uppers.
As set up it's a solid 1200 yard gun with 42 / H4350 pushing a Hornady 140 ELDM. It's one of the easier calibers I found to load for.
