Got a call from a fella yesterday who needs dies for his chambered CheyTac 40 Imp. 40 degree.
No fired brass cause he has no dies. Ok,
Send me the reamer drawing .
Drawing is mathematically incorrect. From kiff I'm not surprised. This is like the 8th or 10th time I've seen this from Dave the D bag.
So now, the only way I can be sure of specs is to inspect the reamer in order to make correct dies .
Another sad part of this is the fella waited 10 months to get a reamer that the rest of the makers are 6 to 12 weeks out.
Just another public service announcement, carry on.
YMMV

Wow...just fucking wow...

For me, the scary part is that we RELY on reamer geometry to be correct. No way to check it (and even if I had the needed equipment, I certainly would spend the time to check every reamer's geometry), it just needs to be "right".

So this is what you would consider a "minor" error, in that the chamber cut by the reamer would still actually "be" a .408 CT?
Inspecting reamer geometry is above my pay grade- I'm assuming an optical comparator is needed to do this?

It's tempting sometimes when I see a "sale" on what's presumably overstock or an oddball chambering that I might be able to use- but after hearing these horror stories about incorrect geometry for so long I don't order reamers there anymore. Lying about lead times is bad enough, but a "bad" reamer is my biggest nightmare.
