I am looking for user feed back on the use of pvs 14 behind a quality day optic and what the real limitations of the set up would be. I have also read that some pvs 14s will shut off from recoil - how common is this?
I am considering acquiring either a '14 or a 760. If I got the '14 I would have an all around NV device and realize that there are compromises to anything, but if I can not mount it behind a day optic and use it precisely at a distance it probably isn't for me. In my case I would want to mount the '14 behind an S&B 3-12x50 on an SPRish AR and would want to be able to use up to 6x? 10x? 12x? power to shoot sub moa out to at least 300 but hopefully a fair amount more (I get the impression from reading that shooting with NV is a bit harder than during the day). I would likely mount a 'Da Torch' on the rail or better yet, over the top of the optics as well to increase the range.
So can those that have used '14s mounted behind day optics please give me their input and even better take a few pics? Pics preferably would show the lighting conditions of the area without NV and then also through the day optic with NV and describe any IR light added. Please describe how far you have taken precise shots or how far you think you could.
TIA
Good luck
