Hey!

Saw that TNVC is selling the PVS-21.
But it is kind of expensive and wanted to know if there is any one that has a used pair for sale.

Would have some thermal stuff for trade or cash.

Am also looking for a PVS-15 if there is no one with a PVS-21.

Yeah, at roughly $20k a pair, the -21s aren't likely to be owned by anyone outside of Mil/LEO who aren't millionaires or single PMCs

We do and they are not LE or Mil.

To the OP, if you have ever tried a PVS-21 you will NEVER go back to a single or standard dual tube monoc system ever again. The 21's are something VERY special and the capabilities are incredible. I know, it's all I have been using for the last few years. :)

I do wish they were a bit less $$, but the price of this technology drives this price and I cannot say enough how effective these systems are in all lighting conditions.

Any chance you could PM me the price of your PVS-21?

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

I have used the 21s a good bit since 02. Some things I like:

There are good for driving, if you come into a lit area, or oncoming traffic the non amplified or true image takes over in the beam combiner, same thing when moving from a dark hall way to a lit room. Sometimes you get a double image effect, but its not to bad. Plus you can just turn them off and see right through them.

Good depth perception.

You can use them with a red dot on your long gun, as fast as your naked eye.

If you have to see things up close, they focus with great clarity.

They do not stick out far from your face. If you are in a confined armor vehicle, and everyone has NV that sticks out you some time "lock antlers" not so with the 21s

What I don't like: They are heavy, You need a really solid mount or they will droop.

Have not compared a 14 to 21 for quality of image, will take a few out tonight and do so.

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

IPSC guy, just came in after comparing 21's and a 14, this is totally subjective, but the image quality is about the same. The variable gain on the 14s lets you adjust and discern a little more if there is a light in your field of view, but the 21s don't really glare out.

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

Besides driving, maneuvering over obstacles is a huge advantage while walking. The 21's let you see at your feet instead of 3' in front of them with 15's or single tube.

Indeed weight is an issue and a counter weight is mandatory.

Are your 21s Autogated or are they DC tubes?

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

Hi,I now got my self a pair of 21's, but one tube got a big spot.

I would like to replace it.

Tube looks like to have an external power supply.(it is in that cylinder with the IR LED)

I got the objective off but can't get to the tube its self.

Does any one know here how to get to the tube?

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

No, this is a used set, the spot is about 0,3mm and very annoying.

Does the tube have a twister?

One could just depott the tube, put in a new one and repott without having to mess with that powersupply which seems to be in some very solid potting material.

my only problem is, I can't get to the tube, the tube housing is stuck.

I unscrew the 4 objective screws, got off the objective, loosen the 2 screws on top (these that hold the power supply cylinder)
, but the tube housing wount come loose.

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

Do you have someone picked out to attempt to replace the module in the tube power supply?

I am not trying to discourage you at all, but the undertaking your attempting is very ambitious to say the least. I am not even sure STS could do what you want. I have seen PVS 21 tubes out of the unit and it is not a typical can affair.

I am however interested in your progress and applaud your daring.

Re: PVS-21 or PVS-15

You've got some balls. I have a 15 and my brother has a 15 and the only reason we have them is because we got them dirt cheap, operating on a 21 like that you must have some serious cash flow
